NYS and NYC are known for voting democrats but although the almost winner (primary) is a retired cop I feel this time the republican candidate(no primary needed) Curtis Sliwa will win by a landslide. Most people who travel to NYC by bus / railroad / subway when facing a problem don't look for the police but for the Guardian Angels. I do. JMHO but the current Mayor -De Blasio- is useless when it comes to crime.
Have to say that NYC mayoral primary for a democratic party candidate was the most convoluted thing I've seen lately. Seems to me a ranking system like that is much more susceptible to fraud and miscounted votes than mail in ballots. I hope it get abandoned as a voting procedure.
The runoffs would have to be done by computer. If voting is from only paper ballots, I suppose it might be easier to make mistakes on physical data entry. First impression, it seems like not a bad idea, especially in races where there are 3 or more candidates who end up nearly tied at the top. It would avoid having a winner totally unacceptable to a majority of the voters. Here in Georgia we have physical run-off elections in situations like that for statewide elections. It's very expensive. OTOH, it gives people a second chance to get out and vote if they didn't vote the first time.
@Silvia Benoit I thought Curtis Sliwa was dead! His presence with the Guardian Angels at one time caused many sleazy characters to think twice before acting against others. That enough folks would remember him in a positive vein, given the negative reporting which slandered him by the press at one time is heartening! Frank
@Silvia Benoit But, I beg to differ with you: I contend that, in general, people are MORE STUPID today than ever before. Frank
Indeed...and in more sense than one but when it comes to safety in the subway they know the GA are the chosen ones.
