"Oh to be in Oleanna, that is where I'd like to be, Than be bound in Norway to drag the chains of slavery." (Listen to Pete Seeger's or the Kingston Trio's versions) Hal
I don't know why I post uninteresting songs such as this. Few people would even care to comment after they heard it. I guess I sound like I have a lame taste in music...many of you apparently think this way. Hal
I remember the Kingston Trio’s version of this song. I always liked it, but couldn’t make any sense of it, and I just listened to it again, and didn’t hear the words you quoted. Is there another song that has those lines ? Where is Oleanna ? Can you please explain more about this song, @Hal Pollner ? The Kingston Trio has always been one of my favorite musician groups, and I used to have some of their record albums.
Okay, a quick trip to Wikipedia, and more history of the song, and then I looked up the Pete Seeger version of it, which has the same melody and very different words. After reading about it in Wikipedia, the song makes more sense, but the Kingston Trio version still makes no sense to me.
Yvonne, Oleanna is a fictitious, happy place, but its location may also be some fantasy! I like the line that goes: ''Little roasted Piggies dash about the city streets, Inquiring so politely if a slice of Ham you'd like to eat!" "Oleanna, etc" Hal
