@Holly, your parents may recall the Lambeth Walk, a dance which became popular in 1938. It was popular for years after its introduction as a Cockney-style strolling/walking dance originating in the Lambeth district of London. It's even performed occasionally today. "Anytime you're Lambeth way, Any evening, any day, You'll find us all Doin' the Lambeth Walk...Hoy!" See the video on YouTube; it's a full on-stage theatrical performance! Hal
LOL>..Hal, there's not a Londoner alive who doesn't know the Lambeth walk.... it's still danced and sung in many places like carnivals or old theatres.. etc...especially those old traditional cockneys ( of whom there's very few these days).. love to dress up in the costume of the Cockney Pearly Kings and Queens... I'm not English, although I've lived near London for 40 years and I'm married to a Londoner, however despite that, regardless of which country anyone is from in Great Britain and Ireland everyone knows the ''Lambeth walk''...
As a child my home was just around the corner from Lambeth Walk and my Irish aunt lived just off it Sang the song many times and still do - love it ! @Hal Pollner
Well, ladies...it's certainly refreshing to know that there are some of us who still enjoy music and dance of 80 years ago! "Everything's free and easy, Do as you darn well pleasy. Why don't you make your way there, Go there, stay there!" Even my little Avatar Lamb likes the Lambeth Walk! Hal
