We would occasionally find termites in our house. Our remedy is the termicide liquid spray that is mixed with water. It is kind of messy because you cannot avoid getting wet with the pesticide. And the smell is not pleasant. Last week, we discovered a hive of termite in the ceiling of our terrace. After spraying with the termicide, presumably it has been cleaned although we cannot be too sure because we didn't open the entire ceiling. When we talked about hiring a professional for pest control, we realized that it is very expensive. What do you think?
Unless it goes out of control or the infestation is of consideration, having professional pest control does not involve the price, but sometime having to go out of the house for a period of time, which might be an inconvenient for your and your hubby. In my case I try to avoid the use of pesticides, but my only problem is mosquitoes appearing from time to time. However I just got an electronic racket to get rid of them with ease, and works great!, http://www.amazon.com/Vex-Zappers-R...bs_468_15?ie=UTF8&refRID=0HCSR4G7E2AY0WJFSNGM There might be something similar to kill termites electronically.
It is a bad timing for the carpenter to check the ceiling of the terrace that is infested with termites, hopefully the termites are gone or in hibernation for the moment. One of our housemaids went on a vacation so we cannot afford to hire someone to work because we need people to handle the dogs and also to provide assistance to the hired worker, i.e. the carpenter. Now we are still contemplating on whether to call the pest control company or the carpenter. It depends.
We usually take an after dinner walk. The other night, my husband and I were just a few houses away when we smelled burning wood. But it was quite dark so we didn't notice that there was a tree that was burning. No, it's not from a lightning or due to other natural causes. The tree with a diameter of a foot maybe was deliberately cut and the stump was burned. We only learned of it on the following night that we walked. There we noticed the smoke coming from the burning stump in the sidewalk. On the next morning when my husband inquired, it turned out that the tree had died due to infestation of termites. Truly our village is a big hive of termites that you can see almost anywhere. That's the reason why we are always on the lookout for an infestation in our house.
Facinating creatures, the dreaded termite! Here's a link to a small read which might just enlighten everyone regarding the cellulose digesting insect. http://www.colonialpest.com/what-do-termites-eat/ It appears that the termite is a marvelous part of the "cycle of life" in regard to dead wood, mold, moss, mushrooms and general undergrowth and do supply a great amount of nutrients back to the soil. I haven't seen anything yet that marks a termite with the cause of a tree dying but could possibly finish off a tree that was already infected by some other disease. But that being said, I am always on the lookout for small "boil" like mounds protruding from the ground particularly from under the house and in my shop. While they may be one of God's waste recycling plans they do wreak havoc with untreated wood materials in a house.
Termites in your home you want to get rid of as fast as you can. Termites do cause a lot of damage to your home. We have to replace the garage door and frame due to the damage the termites did. The cost of having a pest control person treat your home is cheaper than replacing and repairing the damge done to your home by the termites.
