COMMIT TO PRAY FOR CHINESE CHRISTIANS DURING THE 2022 OLYMPICS IN BEIJING (link)

"As the eyes of the world turn toward Beijing and the XXIV Olympic Winter Games, will you join with believers all across the globe to pray for our Christian brothers and sisters suffering persecution at the hands of China’s Communist government?"

FIVE WAYS YOU CAN PRAYFOR CHINESE CHRISTIANS DURING THE OLYMPIC GAME

      • Pray for pastors and church leaders to stand firmly for biblical truth in spite of government pressure to compromise.
      • Pray for the encouragement of Chinese believers and that they will experience unity and fellowship as members of the body of Christ.
      • Pray for Christians in prison. Pray for God’s protection over them, for their health and nutrition, and that they will have opportunities to witness for Christ to guards and fellow prisoners.
      • Pray for the spread of the gospel among participants in the games and among local, provincial, and national Communist Party Leaders.
      • Pray for the safe distribution of Bibles in every part of China.

This has become known as the "Genocide Games" in some circles, and one NBA owner declared he didn't care what happened to the Uyghurs, and he thought nobody cared the least bit what happened to them. I know they are not Christian, but perhaps they deserve a little prayer as well.

Even those who are not believers can send positive thoughts for the Christians and Uyghurs.

China has always been fertile ground for the planting of the Gospel of Christ. An untold number of Christians live in China.

    Ruth Graham’s childhood in China

"Ruth Bell Graham was born in China in 1920, where her parents, Dr. and Mrs. L. Nelson Bell, were medical missionaries at a hospital north of Shanghai. She spent most of her childhood in China and first sensed the great calling to abandon all for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ during her time there, even dreaming of becoming a missionary in Tibet."

"This aspect of Ruth’s life is represented in one of the galleries at the Billy Graham Library where a pagoda frames a video screen where visitors learn about her heart for ministry." (Read More)

    Righteousness
The Chinese character for righteousness is found on Ruth’s grave marker in the memorial prayer garden at the Billy Graham Library. The character is comprised of two others: one for lamb written above another for me or I.

Christian Group Urges Prayer Boycott of Beijing Olympics

"In a press release from VOM, spokesman Todd Nettleton said, “The Olympics are always filled with wonderful pageantry and inspiring athletic accomplishments. But let’s not forget what the host government doesn’t want us to see: imprisoned pastors, destroyed church buildings and a complete lack of religious freedom. I hope every Christian will use each event and every Olympic update as a reminder to pray for our persecuted family members in China as the Scriptures instruct us to do.”

"The Chinese Communist Party sees Christianity as a threat to its rule. As Matthew Taylor King wrote for the Wall Street Journal in 2020, “Beijing no longer wants simply to repress religion but to transform it.” That involves, among other things, appropriating Jesus for the party’s purposes. One notable incident was a textbook that retold the story of Jesus forgiving the woman who was to be stoned for adultery to say that Jesus stoned her instead."

Olympic Athletes Warned Against Criticizing China’s Human Rights Abuses

01/19/2022 China (International Christian Concern) – " As Olympians from around the world prepare to travel to Beijing for the Winter Olympics, they have received an eerie warning from Chinese officials, indicating that if they speak out in a manner critical of China, they may be subject to punishment under Chinese law."

"In what is a clear attempt to silence criticism during the Olympics, an official with the Beijing Olympics Committee informed the athletes that, expression in line with the Olympic spirit I’m sure will be protected. Any behavior or speeches that are against the Olympic spirit, and especially against Chinese laws and regulations are also subjected to certain punishment.” This warning to athletes brought to life an earlier reported warning from Human Rights Watch, which cautioned athletes that speaking out against China’s abuses may threaten their safety." Pelosi again warns US athletes to not speak out against China during Olympics

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she discouraged US athletes competing in the Olympics from criticizing the Chinese government because she fears for their safety.

Pelosi noted that while the US has an obligation to call out Beijing over human rights violations committed against Uyghurs and other Muslim minority groups, Olympic athletes should steer clear of doing so.

“If we do not speak out against human rights violations in China because of commercial interests, we lose all moral authority to speak out against human rights violations anywhere,” said Pelosi, who then told the athletes: “Do not risk incurring the anger of the Chinese government, because they are ruthless.”

Critics on both sides of the political aisle slammed Pelosi over her warning, citing the State Department deeming Chinese treatment of the Uyghurs to be genocide and noting that the US is leading a diplomatic boycott of the Winter Games.

Pray for China’s Christians; they’re suffering a new attack by the Communist government
    [IMG]
"The Chinese government may have picked the wrong target as they scramble to prevent the Middle East’s “Jasmine Revolution” from spreading to China. According to reports, they are going after China’s millions of Christians."

"Since most Chinese Christians worship in underground congregations, estimates of their numbers range wildly from 60 million to 150 million. However, it is widely accepted that the Chinese church is the largest in the world — eclipsing the United States’ worshipers."

“The news out of China grows worse as reports of the arrest, detention, harassment, and beatings of Christians come from across China,” writes author Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. “Central to this crackdown is the paranoia of the Communist Party. One of the hallmarks of democratic societies is the existence of thriving ‘mediating institutions’ between the individual and the brute power of the state. In the United States, these mediating institutions include everything from the PTA to your local church and the neighborhood reading club.
“One dimension of the Communist Party’s idolatry is that it allows no mediating institutions between its power and the individual,” notes Mohler. “It greatly fears these organizations, especially the church. One reason — Christians in China now outnumber members of the Community Party.”
