First, our (wife/I) opinion: Absolutely not. To dangerous for the small kids. The Boston Marathon is huge compared to the one here. So, here is the story in our local news: A lady's husband (not going to give name) was on a 7-moth deployment, so during that time she trained for a popular marathon with her two children (a 2 yr. old and 4 yr. old). This was her first marathon. The race made an exception and allowed her to push 80 pounds (between her stroller and the two children). The mother stated, "In the stroller, they argue. They will ask me to open containers of food. I've had to break up fights. They sleep. But, throughout the marathon, they stayed awake the entire time, just taking it all in." The lady completed the race in 3 hours/16 minutes, the 5th fastest female to run the marathon this year. She said "looking down at my children helped me finish the race and have the memories of it." Her time qualified her for the Boston Marathon, which she plans to run next year, but that marathon doesn't allow strollers. The lady says, "I don't see the problem of letting mothers run with their children, letting fathers run with their children, and making it a more family event." A rep from the Boston Athletic Assoc. says strollers mainly aren't allowed because of the tight quarters in most of the course. It's a roll that has many local residents divided. The rep states: A. Because it's dangerous to the other runners and B. Because it's sort of dangerous to the children in the strollers. This lady's girlfriend has started a petition that will encourage race officials to change the rules and allow strollers at the Boston Marathon. "If I could do it again, I would any day", the lady said. She continued, "They (the children) can be a pain, but it's a memory that will last forever and that we'll treasure forever and I'm blessed to be able to share with them." The lady has started a "Stroller Mom Squad" to help other moms reach their running goals.
That's just dangerous for everyone involved. She should go about setting up a marathon for jogging strollers if she wants to run with her children. Not every venue is for everybody and you can't expect it to be.
