Question Re: Elections

Discussion in 'Politics & Government' started by Janice Martin, Jul 23, 2016.

  1. The older generation used to say in any election- presidential, local, etc.- it's virtually impossible to agree 100% with any one candidate on every single issue. They said because of this, you have to decide which issues are most important to you, and choose the candidate whose views are compatible.

So, if you don't mind me asking: which issues are most important to you in the upcoming presidential election?

or, do you vote for one particular party regardless of individual issues?

I want an honest person who will follow his own agenda rather than the one that both major political parties have been following for decades, even if I don't like the agenda. After that, in order of importance, we need to...
    • Close our borders. Closing it entirely would be fine with me, but let's at least close our borders to our enemies.
    • Dust off the constitution and put it to work again.
    • The federal government needs to quit meddling in things that are none of its business, both at home and abroad.
If we did these things, everything else would work itself out in due time.

I vote for one particular party these days. We had a governor from the other party many years ago who I thought was a great governor. When he ran for senate I voted for him. It didn't take long for the leaders of that party to make him toe the line. It really doesn't matter if that person is honest and wants to do what's best for the country, if he doesn't play along with the party leaders he'll get nowhere. I'll never vote for a democrat again.

Right now the republicans have the momentum of the people to change the 'good ol' boy' system within their party. I hope they succeed.

One major problem with the "elected body" governing system that has always troubled me is the fact that vitally-important long-term country-wide plans implemented by an Administration, those extending beyond 10, 20 years or more, are often subject to reversal by the whim of an Administration following the one which implemented it.

One example would be this one: "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994"
    A few of it's provisions:
Federal Assault Weapons Ban 20+ years later, you can still buy them legally. Included the ridiculous "ban" of high-capacity ammunition magazines while allowing the virtually unlimited supply in existence to remain legal.
Federal Death Penalty Act Created SIXTY new death penalty offenses.
Elimination of higher education for inmates Keep them stupid, like most criminals are?
Driver's Privacy Protection Act Stopped the sale or availability of Drivers personal info. Good one, IMO.
