I got mine in 2018, but didn't know it was special, until reading your link. Good for 8 years also. I got a star ! ( Is that like getting a trophy? ) Drivers licenses here used to be good for only 5 years. Wonder if we will have to go through the same process when this one expires.
Maine didn't sign onto Real ID. It's optional here. We can get the regular ID or the Real ID. Our licenses are good for 17 years, although there is an age cut off, where older people have to renew more often. I guess I'll find out what that cut off is when I renew mine next summer.
