    We have our spawning runs here in May and June. Fishing for salmon and steelhead starts in Sept.

    About the same time as Bristol Bay in Ekuk, Alaska. The single processing plant cranks up for Salmon in May and they shut down around the beginning of August.
    After August, the population drops from around 1,500 to 2.

    Beautiful.

    They live their lives, oblivious to the crap we put ourselves through.

    Sometimes you gotta envy critters.
    Sometimes.

    Love to watch Grizzly Bears catch/eat salmon..........on tv, that is. They are much, much better fishermen than I'd ever be! LOL

    It can be hilarious watching a young Grizzly try to catch a salmon.

    @Mary Stetler

    My wife, stationed with her first husband in Alaska, was allowed to catch any amount, since they were low-income. She baked them often. I envy that!

    You wouldn't want these, @Mary Stetler . They are spawning and the flesh is very mushy. These are Red Salmon. Silvers are in full flush now downstream. The Silvers (Coho) are my favorite salmon to fish for

    That was my first impression, but having seen old salmon up close, I recognized them.
    Did you know it takes a salmon 4 years in freshwater streams before it can live in saltwater?

    Thats nice to have them right there to catch ,we had salmon patties for last 2 days today was the third day. But they are canned.When we have lots of work around here we cook enough to last so we don't have to cook much.
    I've never seen salmon in the wild. Lots of perch, whitting, drum and sheephead but no salmon.

    We don't catch them here as they are too spent. I go downstream closer to salt water to catch fresher fish.
