I had been taking the 2 pretty faithfully for some yrs and then backed off, why I don't know for sure, but I'm kicking myself as going off these may have given me a big setback with my joints and OA. There is a ton of info on both and I'm purely posting what I believe happened in my life. Boron is a mineral that is found in food and the environment. People take boron supplements as medicine. Boron is used for building strong bones, treating osteoarthritis, as an aid for building muscles and increasing testosterone levels, and for improving thinking skills and muscle coordination. I was up to 9mg of Boron after doing a lot of research and now in recent months, maybe taking 3mg daily....so here I go and usually spread this 9mg out over the day. I've read the U.,S. is Very low in Born in our soils. Israel one of the highest countries with Born and lowest countries with OA. Stronium Citrate is recommended on empty stomach, away from calcium and about 600mg daily spread out. I am back on both and have a new order into my source and HOPE that I can get back to going to a restaurant with a friend...my bones and muscles have gotten too weak. Again if only I had not laxxed on these 2.
It used to be used in children in areas affected by radioactive testing I think. Perhaps it is in our future again.
I'm familiar with Strontium 90, but have never heard of an ingestible form of the element. "Your skin is absolutely glowing!"
Been using my VA prescription of 50mg Tramadol and 800mg Ibuprofen for some years now for osteoarthritis in both shoulders from rotator cuff surgery I had in each. Don't take the Tramadol daily, but the Ibuprofen I do. On the days I take a Tramadol and an Ibuprofen, I have absolutely no pain at all for some 8 hours. It's wonderful! Tramadol is classified as a narcotic, but when I get that acky/nagging pain in my shoulders, I really don't care. Just got a Cortisone injection in both from my VA doctor. The injection definitely worked on the right shoulder, but most definitely not on the left one. I will get one more in the left one in December and see if that will work. If not, I'll go with what my VA doctor recommends me to do/use. We also use CBD Salve and CBD Cubies for pain and sleep. Due to our Diabetic II medication, can't use Turmeric.
There is a huge difference between how your medication works and what the supplements do to help pain. What you take is pain medication, and all it does is help stop you from feeling the pain from the arthritic areas of your body, because it numbs the feeling of the pain. Taking a supplement that helps rebuild bones or cartilage is actually repairing the body, so that the pain decreases gradually as you heal. Think of it as an example, someone who has a broken leg. The pain medication does not help the leg to heal, but it numbs the pain of the break. However, when you take minerals, like calcium and magnesium, then they actually help those bones to heal. Both the pain medication and the supplements work together to help your broken leg heal, while stopping you from feeling the pain as much while your body is healing. If you only take pain medication, the body is probably never going to heal from the arthritis, and you will be in pain and need painkillers constantly for the rest of your life.
Yvonne, I know what Tramadol does. I've been taking it since 2015. First for my hip replacement and then for both shoulder rotator cuff surgeries. It attaches to a nerve going from the pain to the brain. It does cure the problem, but VA doctor recommended physical therapy didn't ether. My wife got a Cortisone injection in her one finger a few years ago, due to arthritis in her hand, and the pain she was having went away. But, when the pain does come back, she will rub come CBD Salve on it and that help. From what I understand, any kind of arthritis never goes away. Some can go away, depending on what weather environment a person lives in. That's why many, many older Seniors have to live in a somewhat-to-totally warm climate yearly. I take calcium and magnesium, but too much magnesium can cause diarrhea. Or, as I say "been there, done that" with too much magnesium. Vitamin supplements can/do work on many folks, but that can also depend on prescription medications they are taking for whatever. There are those, like myself, that have to find the close-to-perfect thing for arthritis pain, no matter what that is. IOW, there are millions of folks, young and old/older that are on some kind of pain killer/pain killers, because that's all that will help them.
We are in a seasonal change already so maybe it might be the weather. I was hurting so bad when I stood up this morning I decided not to drive to the DMV for my license renewal. I did feel better a couple hours later so I went out and aired all four tires for the drive. I came in and had lunch and lay down for 3 hours as I usually do. Tomorrow I hope I have no trouble with the old truck, that would surely ruin my day. I just want to get the license renewal and hibernate the rest of the winter, and I will. Hope you get some relief and soon
Although Boron has a tendency to increase estrogen, I take 15mg out of the 20mg maximum dosage every day for its overall uses and not just for bone density. One factor is that it helps decrease the amount of calcium and magnesium that is lost through urine and also helps metabolize a lot of the electrolytic minerals we should be ingesting. Since I’m all about muscle mass and strength, boron also helps in the production of and metabolization of testosterone, helps maximize recovery and since it’s anti-inflammatory attributes help with the follow-up aches and pains from a hard workout, the mineral is 1st on my list of got-to-have supplements. Pure and simple, pain killers are drugs and mask the problem. The human body doesn’t make drugs ergo most drugs are not necessarily good for the human body even though they may make us feel better. Note: The human body doesn’t make many of the amino acids that are necessary for human life but that still isn’t a good argument for taking drugs which all have definite side effects. It’s easier to take drugs than to fix what is not working correctly which is why most people rely on pain killers and the pain killing market is so popular. Through managed physical exercise and a proper diet combined with some necessary supplementation, most age related maladies can be deterred at least to some degree. Many pharmaceutical grade pain killers are readily available on the street for a price and are called……dope. There’s a reason for that. Maybe because so many people die from taking them.
Just remember, Bobby, there are those that, for whatever reasons, can't do much, if any, exercising. Not everyone is like you and Yvonne, who appear to be very healthy and in great shape. But, in many cases, that "very healthy and great shape" doesn't go with everyone our age. There are those that have to take medications for pain or whatever, like I do. I tried the physical therapy and it simply didn't work for my pain and neither do the vitamin supplements (for inflammation) that I've taken. In other words, when things simply don't work to slow up or stop pain and not work to repair what is making the pain, a person "has to do what they have to do" to be able to live somehow with the pain. A 50mg Tramadol and an 800mg Ibuprofen stops my shoulder pain...........that's all I want, even if it isn't for a full day. I worked for a Senior Healthcare Company in Denver for 4 years. There were three Centers where company vans would transport Seniors to a Center for some kind of health care. Many of those Seniors were in wheelchairs and/or walkers. Some even sat in their wheelchair outside the Center and smoked a cigarette with an oxygen tank/mask hanging right beside them. I was so amazed when I saw that! These Seniors kept coming back for more and more exercise, or whatever, to slow/stop their pain, but only their pain medication/medications would help in-between visits.
I’m not going to argue with you Cody. You’re going to do what you do and that’s all there is to it no matter what proofs, research and valid reasons there would be for change. Rationalizations only sound good to the person doing the rationalizing. Note: Yvonne isn’t in Great health. She does what she does because she wants to GET healthy. After nearly dying because of major organs shutting down, I made the changes I had to make to GET healthy. I thank God and the ability to make the changes we had to make in order to have the quality of life we have, such as it is. Note 2: If you had been taking a minimal amount of boron Cody, chances are your body wouldn’t have reacted harshly from taking a suggested dosage of magnesium.
There's nothing to argue about, Bobby. I go with what my VA doctor tells me and he continues to prescribe me the Tramadol and Ibuprofen. He is in the Army Reserves now as a Lt. Colonel, so he knows his medicine. I research the side-affects of any vitamin supplement I take. Boron has it's side-affects, just like too much magnesium does. I didn't react harshly to the magnesium. The day/night, I took three of them and that caused the bad diarrhea I had. I'm on Metformin and Glipizide daily for Diabetic II, two blood pressure VA meds for high blood pressure, a cholesterol VA med and Senior Vitamin and some Supplements. All I know is, there are literally thousands of Seniors, and many of the Veterans with the VA Medical, that take some kind of prescribed pain med/meds for whatever. Funny how people will complain about pharmacies, but what about VA pharmacies? People will complain about their PCP, but I don't hear much about VA doctors. However, I've heard Veterans complain about the VA Medical service they get. I've never really had a problem with VA Medical. All I'm saying is that there is nothing wrong with taking a prescription pain med, especially for those that dislike pain and the med works. I definitely don't like knowing that I could very well be on Tramadol the rest of my life. Then again, it's the lowest milligram of Tramadol (50) there is. I figure, if my VA doctor told me there was a better way to get rid of my pain, I'd surely listen to him.
The more drugs docs hand out, the more Phama loves them . I tried that Tramadol at one point some yrs back and it was not that great and I believe there is a constipation factor with that drug as there is with opiods. I woke up in the 80's and also live with some degrees of pain. I use low doses of otc pain stuff every 6 hrs. With food in stomach. Cody listens to his doc as many do, I often go the other way with their recommendations. ,
Been using VA Medical 50mg Tramadol since around 2015, without any problems at all. But, mine is the lowest milligram of Tramadol there is. It never once gave me any constipation. And, Joy, I'm with the VA Medical and totally trust them, as do many Veterans. On the days (every two days) that I don't take a Tramadol (one), I take 800mg Ibuprofen, again, with no problems. Also use CBD Salve and CBD Cubies. Both of these help, but, obviously, not like the combo of Tramadol and Ibuprofen do.
