I laugh when I think about my mother and other seniors that lived in the Mobile Home Park waiting for the mailman to deliver their SS checks. They would then all march across the street to deposit their checks at the bank. It was a great time to visit and socialize. I guess there are still seniors that prefer mail for their checks.
Mine just got deposited today. I was already out of the house when my parents got SS so don't recall anything like that. I'm sure it was no big deal though and got them out of the house.
We don't have a choice, do we? I thought they made a rule that it had to be direct deposited. Some people I know were very unhappy about that.
I don't trust the US Mail to deliver my Pension Checks and Socialized Security Checks. They're both Directed-Deposited in my checking account. My account number is XXXXX-XXXXX. Hal
I think Shirley is right, don't have a choice anymore. We've always had our SS in direct deposit and I always check our account to make sure it is there. Wouldn't trust the mail either, since we had a few things come up missing (not delivered) and had to have them replaced.
I don't think I was given a choice between direct deposit or check. I don't remember for sure, but I don't think I had the check option.
this has never happened since I started getting them, it was always the 4th Wednesday of the month. I just happened to check my online bank acct and was shocked to see my balance. Maybe it's a Christmas present and I'll get another deposit tomorrow, lol. Wishful thinking.... Has this happened to anyone else ever?
O yes, it has and there's no reason why you should be shocked. (I know you aren't.) It usually happens because of public holidays which may make a deposit on a particular day impossible. In order to make sure people can pay their bills, authorities deposit the money earlier rather than too late. What are you gonna do with the windfall interest earned?
Our Social Security benefits usually arrive on the 3rd of each month, but when it falls on a weekend or holiday, then it comes early. So, if the 3rd came on a Sunday, we would get paid on Friday, the 1st. Since yours always comes on a Wednesday, the likelihood is that it would not fall on a holiday; but my guess would be that it has something to do with the Christmas holiday. Might be something to do with the government shutdown, too. That is something that would not normally happen and possibly could be why it came early.
Well today is the holiday and that's when I got it..on a holiday...that's why I thought it weird. I get it on the 4th Wednesday ...the date may vary but it's always been deposited on a Wednesday.... This is the first time in all the years Ive been getting it which is about 5 or 7 years ..I forget if I started getting it when I was 60 or 62, that it wasn't on a fourth Wednesday.
That may be when you saw it in your account. The actual transfer may have been a bit earlier. There is often a delay between the transfer of money and crediting an account.
That is what I think, too. It was probably actually deposited for her yesterday, which was not a holiday.
Believe me I check my balance every day And this is the first time in all the years that I got it on a different day. I just checked when I started getting them and it was age 60...so 7 years of getting it on the fourth Wednesday of each month...except this Month.
It's my widows benefits....I don't get social security but I get a portion of my husband's. The date corresponds with his birthday...not mine. Same with Medicare...it's my husband social security number that was on my Medicare card...not mine.
