No one should get the news that a loved one has died over the phone, and especially not while driving. I'm glad she was able to pull over, and that this officer helped her in her time of grief. http://www.myfoxphilly.com/story/29665619/police-officer
The person who called her on the phone really should have asked where she was and told her to call back as soon as she reached her destination. The car driver should not have had that news when she was in such a vulnerable situation. Of course the caller might have been too upset to consider this, but it was fortunate that the police officer was more considerate towards someone who was obviously too upset to drive.
Yes, I agree on both counts. It would be a horrible way to learn of a loved one's death, but the person calling her might have been even more distraught, it might have been the caller's mom, and s/he was turning to someone (driver) who usually nurtures him/her. We just don't think straight when we're grieving. Hopefully this will click with some people and they will think to ask that question before imparting such news in the future. It sure was good to read some news about someone who cared enough to reach out and help someone in need. There is enough depressing/stressful news, so this was a nice change.
