Here are a few videos I took on our trip across the south of India, the first two are Tuk Tuk rides one in daylight the other last night on our way to the Jewish Quarter in Cochin... This is one of folk dancing in Mahabalipuram
We visited a 400 year old ginger root factory while in Cochin, I have always liked ginger as fizzy drink and candied, but never had it as a coffee which has quite a kick and I enjoyed it, so bought a bottle. The aroma of fresh ginger takes your breath away literally in the packing areas, I have never experienced a ginger high like that before. After gathering, the ginger roots are washed in lime and left in the sun for 4 days, during which they turn from white to the golden colour we are used to. Here are a few photos we took showing the stages... Part of the factory for drying: The lime washing area Drying area Ready for packing Riddling before packing The tourist photo with Lisa
I know ginger is good for you - doesn't agree with me at all, which is a shame as I love ginger biscuits ! Love the picture of Lisa with the gals - great picture !
I enjoyed all of those, @Terry Page . I noticed in the videos that the women seem to dress in traditional style but the men seem to be dressed in western style. Are women there still considered lesser than men or are they treated equally? I also noticed quite a few walls. Any idea why? Motorcycles seem to outnumber cars. Any idea why? It was a fascinating look into another society. Thanks for sharing. I like ginger tea.
The men do dress in traditional clothes a lot as well @Shirley Martin usually a dhoti, there are a lot of Tuk Tuks, buses and cars, but I think when I took the videos there was a strike, so only motorbikes were being used. I hadn't noticed the walls but I guess the roads we were on had a lot for privacy?
A few photos of the zoo we visited on our last day, it's the oldest one in India dating back to the 1800's, it was a mixture of animals in open areas and some in cages which I don't personally like, a lot of exotic birds were in dimly lit cages with dense netting so you couldn't see anything. A Ladies e-toilet the Gents toilet was a building with a woman in charge, all very odd ,
