It was reported that he gave a ton of concessions in meetings before his nomination. He said he doesn't plan to make any more.

I had heard the Freedom Caucus say that he was saying that but they claimed he conceded nothing. Maybe he was offering things they didn’t want? A SNAFU regardless. This is not how you win friends…

“”I’ve earned this job,” McCarthy reportedly barked at fellow Republicans in an expletive-laced speech. “We earned this majority, and goddammit we are going to win it today.”

McCarthy’s speech was interrupted by firebrand conservative Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) who shouted “bulls—t,” in an outburst that could be heard outside the meeting room, according to reports.”

I think McCarthy would be wise to move his butt out of the speaker's office
That outburst and the fact that he moved his stuff into the speaker's office ahead of winning the vote suggests he's just another arrogant asshat who who runs around with some sense of entitlement. IMHO, he needs an ego adjustment.

He "earned" the job through a career of compromising and cooperating with the Democrats.

    Good evening to all-

Well, I used to think the Democrats were a disorganized and contentious bunch. this crop of Repubs makes unsupervised seventh graders look well-organized and considerate- which they ain't!

you all be safe and keep well- Ed

Another view of this This is really how Republicans display that they’re not sheep. The Democrats act like there’s only one opinion like China and NK. republcans are not afraid to discuss issues before acting.

Yes, I view this dust-up disagreement as a good thing, provided they don't prolong it too long. On the other hand, a do-nothing congress is not necessarily a bad thing, given how they've managed to screw things up of late.:)

7th vote and still no speaker. I think McCarthy should step aside.

He shouldn’t step aside. The Republicans are beginning to show some spine and allowing discussion of their principles openly. They’re finally showing that they’re not Democrats anymore.

I don't think there is any second choice who could come close to the 202 votes McCarthy has, who would also promise so many things to the 20 holdouts as McCarthy has already. These 20 seem to just want to disrupt things to get attention. Not serious about governing.

It's time to find a choice who isn't McCarthy. Otherwise, it's all about his personal ambition and feelings of entitlement.

There is little point in a Republican majority if they are led by McCarthy so, no, those who are not voting for him are doing their jobs the way their job was intended to be done.

I believe Jim Jordan absolutely could; I just don't believe he wants it.

And I'm beginning to agree about the 20 simply wanting to disrupt the process. One of them was just interviewed and he didn't seem to have any direct answers as to what the hell they want. He just blustered about his opposition to McCarthy and blah, blah. When asked "then WHO", he didn't even have a firm answer.
