I am one of the few people on the planet who has never seen any of the Star Trek movies. I wasn't impressed with the series, although I have seen a few episodes, so I never bothered with the movies. However, I am watching Star Trek: The Movie. If I can make it all the way through that one, I'll watch the others. It isn't that I don't like space movies. I have seen plenty, many of which were crap but others that were good. When the Star Trek series was on, it was opposite Space 99 and I preferred Space 99.
My opinion, thus far, is that I-IV were better than I had expected, although nothing to get excited about. I couldn't follow V: The Last Frontier, however. I gave up on it last night, but am giving it another try today. It wasn't that it was overly complex, but that it wasn't interesting enough to follow. Perhaps I was tired, so that's why I'm trying it again today.
I watched all the Star Trek's through the years with the variety of cast. All were excellent. But like you, I never liked any of the movies. It's as though they try to take a whole season story line and try to have it make sense in a two hour movie.
I was never into Star Trek much, but my husband used to watch the TV series back in the day. I think we saw 2 of the movies; I remember "The Wrath of Khan" vaguely. I've never been much of a sci-fi person though.
