As I review and list websites for a living, I often come across some that make me wonder what the hell someone was thinking of. Among these was one that I came across a couple of decades ago when I was working on the Open Directory Project. This was a church site whose theme was about how the church leadership wanted to touch their members. While I could imagine a meaning behind this that wouldn't have been scandalous, that wasn't the one that immediately came to mind. Not quite as nutty is this one. Keep in mind that this is the opening page of the website and not a back page where announcements are made and, in fact, the text following the title doesn't seem to have anything to do with a dumpster company.. The title should be the name of the church. Okay, they are using blog software and they haven't updated their site since 2019, but they'd do better if they were offline if this is what they have for an online presence.
So maybe they moonlight as a refuse collection organization? (Kind of like Chuck's Pastries and Bait Shop.)
'I haven’t checked it out in years but when I was looking for some Christmas music lyrics for a mission in Charlotte, N.C., Google sent me to a site that advertised Christian music lyrics, (Praise.com) that was linked with a porn site.
God moves in a mysterious way His wonders to perform. He plants his footsteps in the sea And rides upon the storm. That website was last updated in 2019. When were the books they use there last updated do you suppose? I just never was very good at seeing into such mysterious things as these but I do think it’s funny. Funny but a little sad too.
Back in the early days of domain names, there were people who would buy up other businesses' domain names and then "resell" them to the business at a large profit. Whoever got to the name first got to buy it. A prominent non-profit here didn't register their name fast enough and balked at what the "squatters" were asking. The squatters then put some really graphic porn on the site and the non-profit quietly caved and paid. Perfectly legal at the time. Just the business of supply and demand.
