Thought process began with my wife watching a TV show about a young couple moving to New Zealand from Denver. I sought info regarding firearms laws in NZ, found plenty, studied it for about an hour, no plan being made to post anything here, until a few minutes ago: "Multiple dead after reported shooting attack at New Zealand mosque" Multiple people were killed in a shooting attack on the southern island of New Zealand on Friday, when a gunman opened fire inside a mosque. The gunman, who was dressed in tactical gear, appeared to live stream video of the shooting on social media, documenting his trip from his vehicle and into the worship center in central Christchurch, New Zealand, where he opened fire indiscriminately. See: https://frontier.yahoo.com/gma/mult...nd-mosque-024735764--abc-news-topstories.html Of interest here is the fact that firearms possession in NZ is limited by licensing, by police discretion, based on various factors, most of which are, not surprisingly, very arbitrary. IOW, the applicant may be denied for any reason decided by the police interviewer. Also not surprisingly, the fee is $124 NZD! So this maniac today shoots up a Mosque, clad in tactical clothing and gear, with arms obtained via unknown means. He was not injured, and was arrested. I decided to check, after reading that the civilian gun registration in NZ numbers 1.5 million firearms, to learn of the population of NZ: 4.7 million! Every third New Zealander may own a firearm...... Frank
From what I read, the first guy arrested was an Aussie who traveled to New Zealand expressly to perform this act of terror. There have been two arrests since, one man and one woman, but I know nothing about them. Apparently they were anti-immigrant fanatics.
