Read the other Thread about Vitamin C Supplement and did buy a bottle of Vitamin C Supplement w/Rose Hips Powder in it, but took back to store. I wanted Rose Hips Supplement (written on the bottle "Rose Hips" for arthritis pain. I found out that the Vitamin C Supplement has very little Rose Hips Powder in it. I became a member of a Ortho Forum after my rotator cuff surgery last March 2015. After almost a year after the surgery, I still get some mild pain in the shoulder daily. Surgeon agreed with me that I most likely have some arthritis in the shoulder and I sometimes get arthritis pain in a couple of other spots on my body where I've had surgery (hip replacement and another rotator cuff surgery on other shoulder). A lady, my age, on the Ortho Forum told me she was having some arthritis pain in her shoulder months after her surgery as well and is trying the Rose Hips Supplement. She doesn't know if it's in her mind or the Supplement is really working, but she is having a lot less pain in the shoulder at night. I also read online that pure/capsuled Rose Hips helps arthritis pain and is much safer than continuing to take NSAID's (Motrin, etc.). Has anyone here hear of this supplement or taking it. I got two bottles in the mail last week and am going to replace the Glucosamine Sulfate that I've been taking.
I don't know about supplements or pain relief but we had roses with lots of hips. My wife made rose hip syrup...best thing I ever put on pancakes.
One thing about the rose hips is that it is actually a natural substance, and not just a concentrated pill that you take. Sometimes, the supplement work fine; but if you do not take them along with a meal, then they do not actually digest, they jut slide on through our body, and really don't do any good if they do not dissolve and get digested. Most natural substances can't be accurately evaluated, and once they are processsed and made into a supplement or pill we have to swallow, you oftentimes lose whatever benefit the natural product had. When people used to use (I think it was) alder bark for the natural aspirin that helped to stop pain, it did not have the dangerous side effeects that taking an aspirin pill has on our body. But, no one could make money selling bark to people; so they developed it as a chemical tablet that could be patented and sold.
Yes, but where would someone who lives in an apartment or condo or even a subdivision like mine get enough natural rose hips or alder bark?
My store-bought 550mg of Rose Hips is next! Still get some "nagging" pain in my left shoulder a year and three months after my rotator cuff surgery. Had it in March of last year. I know, without a doubt, that part of the pain is coming from arthritis that set into the shoulder after surgery. Currently, I'm taking 1 dose of Tramadol 50mg daily and two doses of Motrin (800mg). I also use Topricin Pain Relief Cream sometimes. Doctor will end my Tramadol prescription shortly and will then have to start using the Rose Hips. I will be taking 3 capsules in the AM and 3 in the PM. Because this isn't instant pain relief, will have to continue taking Motrin and using the cream. The Rose Hips is for arthritis pain, which I do get in my hip (hip replacement done in 2005) and both shoulders (RC surgery on each shoulder). After we get back from vacation, I will contact my rotator cuff surgeon to see about getting an x-ray on the shoulder to see what's going on. Perhaps an anchor has come loose and/or arthritis is causing the daily pain. If it is an anchor, another rotator cuff surgery isn't recommended at all, so will have to figure out something else. All I know is that I don't want to continue taking Motrin on a daily basis for the rest of my life. From what I've read, I don't take enough Motrin to hurt me, but. Another thing I read is that living at a higher altitude is better for arthritis. So, for that alone, moving back to Colorado would be best for both of us. What do you think about this posting?
Have heard many good reports on Rose hips - but we are all different and can tolerate different things Some things work for us, some don't and yet work for another I hope the Rose hips work very well for you
Pretty sure that I remember you posting some beautiful pictures of roses growing out there in your yard. You might not have any alder; but you can certainly gather lots of rose hips from all of those gorgeous roses, @Chrissy Page. All kidding aside, the natural plant are safer to use; but even then, a person has to know what to use, and how much of it. The beautiful foxglove plant is used to make digitalis for treating heart conditions; but without expert knowledge of using the foxglove plant, it would be really easy to kill yourself with it. So, for most of us, most of the time, we are probably better getting these things in tablets that come in the proper dosage. Of course, your rose hips are not dangerous in any way, so feel free to indulge all you want to , Chrissy !
Last month/July, called the surgeon that done my left shoulder rotator cuff surgery last year in March. His nurse took the call and the surgeon set me up for an MRI, at my request. Was continuing to have some "nagging/achy" pain in the shoulder and taking 800mg of Motrin a couple of times a day. I seen him this past February and we agreed that I should be more patient, that being a Diabetic 2 and my age is contributing to a longer post-surgery total healing. However, I have got 100% FROM in the shoulder. I wanted the MRI to make sure that nothing had gone wrong/bad since the surgery, like an anchor on the tendon came loose. So, got the MRI last month and seen my surgeon yesterday. Thing is, while waiting to see him and while seeing him, I had absolutely no pain in the shoulder at all. I did take a dose (800mg) of Motrin the night before at 11:30 PM. He told me the MRI results were fine and that nothing has gone wrong in the shoulder. Wife and I were extremely glad to hear that since it meant that I wouldn't need another surgery. He had me do one ROM test, that I fully past. We talked about the possibility of more osteoarthritis had come into the shoulder. After my first MRI, in Dec. 2014, before I had surgery last year, the MRI Report stated there was some osteoarthritis in the shoulder. I had a bottle of 550mg Rose Hips Capsules with me and asked him about them. He knew of them and told me they are similar to other supplements on the market for arthritis pain. Told me to try them for 6 weeks and, if I don't notice any improvement of that "nagging/achy" pain, not to continue spending money on them. He told me to continue taking ibuprofen, when I needed it. "All of this is going to take more time and patience". So, in 6 months, if I see no pain improvement, I will see about getting a second opinion (different doctor/surgeon) on the shoulder. But, for now, it's ibuprofen and Rose Hips capsules.
Yes I've heard about rose hips, will look into this - would be great if they help with arthritis See, I forgot about them - better look them up NOW
Good luck, Cody! Pain sucks and just ruins your day. I have pain occasionally in my left shoulder and nothing takes the edge off that pain. It feels like my arm is being torn away from my shoulder. I've had an X-ray which showed nothing. Didn't have ins then so an MRI was put of the question. It's not constant and just comes on for no reason and will go away in a day or two.
I read an online thing a doctor wrote about Rose Hips and he says to take 2,000mg 2x daily AM/PM for a month, then bring the dosage down to 1,000mg 2x daily. My bottle contains 550mg each. So, will take two in morning and two in evening. Some websites say to take from 3 to 6 grams 2x daily. I think 6grams might be to much. That would be like 6 extra pills a day for me to take! I can handle 4 more a day, but unless needed, that's where I'll stay. Wife told, "if they work for you, I'll use them."
