1923 and Landman are my favorites hands down. I didn't like the actors in 1880 as they didn't fit the part. Also the ladies wearing makeup was a bit much.1923 was well done and I was disappointed it ended after season 2. I love Helen Mirren. Yellowstone is much to unrealistic of Montana ranch life. The actors are good, but Sheridan really disappoints with the unrealistic, unnecessarily violent, story line. Landman I love since it is more realistic. I also like Billy Bob Thornton with his sarcastic humor. Anybody else watch any of these series? If so, what were your favorites and why?
I did not care for 1923 even though I do like Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. I did not like the part with all the abuse of the Indian girls. I preferred 1883 with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. I just like the story in that show much better. I did not like Yellowstone at all. I quit watching after a couple of episodes. It seemed like everyone was being taken to the “train station.” Landman? I have not heard about that show, but I will put that on my radar and try to watch it. I too, like Billy Bob Thornton. I thought he was a funny dude when I first saw him on the sitcom show” Hearts Afire with John Ritter and Markie Post.
I didn't like that either, but that is very accurate history during that time and in that area. Leaving it out of the show would have been an injustice to history. Did you know Indian boarding schools didn't end until 1978?
I watched 1923 but was uncomfortable the whole time. The scenes with the sexual abusing nuns I could not handle. Too much, of various things for me to handle, I watched Lineman only for three minutes if that. When an opening show spouts nothing but repeated vulgar words one right after the other- I am history. Once again, place and timing are important especially of your going to be nasty about it.
Taylor Sheridan writes scripts with the intention of making people uncomfortable. I don't like social issues or politics in shows, unless it is somewhat historically accurate. The nuns abusing the girls in boarding schools, especially in Montana, is documented history. A sad and very disturbing history, but factual and it cannot be erased. 1923 is returning for another season on Feb. 23. I hope Sheridan keeps it historically accurate and addresses the mental issues that those returning from the 1st world war suffered. Landman is fairly accurate, on life in general in those oil field towns, according to a cousin that worked oil around Midland and then gas and oil up in the Panhandle. Both he and wife can't say more than five words without injecting words considered vulgar. I think Sheridan could have toned it down some and still made it accurate. At least Sheridan doesn't shy away from exposing the drug cartels and things like prostitution that thrive in oil towns. I was so disappointed in Yellowstone, because it doesn't portray ranch life in Montana with any accuracy. The branding of drifter cowboys and the constant unrest with the Indian tribes has little truth to it and I feel make Montana ranchers look like horrible people. There are very few contract or drifter cowboys these days and certainly not hired guns like Yellowstone would have one believe. In my opinion, Yellowstone, destroyed a lot Sheridan's creditability he portrayed in his earlier works. However, if he had made Yellowstone more accurate, then it wouldn't be so popular. The day to day working ranch life, of today, is rather boring.
