The CDC has issued Malaria Alerts for the states of Florida and Texas. Four people in Sarasota contracted malaria in locally transmitted cases, and one case in Texas has been confirmed. Locally transmitted mosquito-borne malaria hasn’t occurred in the United States since 2003, when there were about eight cases of the illness in Palm Beach County.

The CDC alert stated that that there is “concern for a potential rise in imported malaria cases associated with increased international travel in” the summer of 2023. Since these cases were "locally transmitted," I guess those 5 people have not been the ones traveling. Hmmmm....

Those of you in those regions (and everyone in general), be especially careful to make certain there is no standing water on your properties that mosquitoes might use as breeding grounds.

I'm sure they'll blame global warming. Personally, I'd guess that Dr. Fauci's friends have been playing around in the laboratory again.

In a sense it's climate change...los niños and las niñas are changing their patterns.

Some folks pointed out that Bill Gates invested $168M in a new malaria vaccine and has made eradicating it a pet project.

You're not curious that Bill Gates is looking for a return on his investment?

I imagine that malaria vax will be on the list of required shots.

Makes me angry I quit drinking. My go-to drink was gin & tonic. Lord knows how much quinine I've ingested. Now I feel at risk.

I have been reading in the news about Bill Gates and the development of new strains of mosquitoes, and it appears that this might be what is causing the sudden malaria outbreak in Florida and Texas. Interesting that the outbreak jumps over Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana and then lands in Texas and Florida.

    Oh, peachy. A new plague.

My sister climbed Kilamanjaro and came home with malaria. I don't ever want to be as sick as she was.

The local hospital was very excited. It was the first case of malaria they had seen in decades. They took more blood from the poor soul than Dracula after a dry spell.

I wonder if The Dreamers have anything to do with it. These diseases are transmitted human-to-human, with the skeeters being the vehicle.
