Today we have a designer coming to our house to design my walk in closet and dressing room.. California Closets.. Anyone done business with them? Anyway.. the room is a blank slate and I'm excited about getting all the features I've been dreaming of. More drawers.. shelving... shoe and boot storage.. and most of all more hanging space. I'm also incorporating my dressing/makeup table and my jewelry cabinet into the design. I should be able to walk out of the shower and into this room emerging all set and ready to go.. I'm excited to see what they can come up with..
Sounds very much like a worthy deal. Have not heard of California Closets. Most usually, my experience has been that bathrooms are designed as though they were "afterthoughts". I made certain that would not happen, when we built our own house, the one and only time I took on that task. I have a few pics, would you care to see it? There are NO hallways in the entire house. My wife considers them expensive wasted space. Frank
@Frank Sanoica , I'd like to see them. I like to see designs that are original. I live in a home that started out in 1870 with a 25x26 log structure, and it was adapted through the years into a 2500 sq.ft. home. Houses are built so quickly now days that you seldom get the individual little touches that come with designing and building your own home.
YEY!!! Today is installation day!!! The Closet People are here now putting it in... So far.. IT'S GEORGEOUS!!! and so worth all the planning and the waiting... Will post pics soon!!
@Carol Cook - I would be excited too ! Sounds smashing @Frank Sanoica - would like to see those pictures too
That is SO awesome, @Carol Cook , and I am glad that they are coming today and will have your new walk-in closet and dressing room all ready to use soon. I think that we are all looking forward to seeing the pictures once it is finished and you have it ready with the refinished dressing table and jewelry box set up in there. The way that you describe it, it sounds like it will be perfect for what you want it to be.
@Carol Cook that is great. I will never live in a place again that doesn't have a walk in closet. I have a walk in now, and it is one of the things I really like about this house. I have a lot of "stuff" anyway, so I really need the storage. However, I am in the process of cleaning it all out, and that is a big job. I mean a walk in is really a small room, so it is akin to cleaning one out. I hate cheap closets where the doors are always getting off track and stuff.
I have heard of California Closets, but I don't recall where. It was probably on an HGTV or DIY Network show, since I watch a lot of those. It sounds as if it's going to work very well for you, and I'm interested to see pictures of the finished product. My question is, will there be a chandelier?
@Carol Cook , You have inspired me to look into doing a walk in closet for my self. I have a small 12X13 room that just collects boxed stuff. It has an 8X8 shelving unit already built in, and my grandson put a long clothes hanging pole in recently. I have two dressers that I plan on putting in there, and an old rocking chair. It should be very comfy, I just wish it had a window.
Sounds like a perfect retreat for you.. I'll try to get some picks posted tonight... It's not finished yet. Just minor things like trim and such left to do..
If it is a dressing room, and you plan on actually dressing in there, then why would you want or need a window, @Ina I. Wonder ? As a person who doesn't even have enough clothes to warrant an actual dresser (let alone a whole dressing ROOM), I am having trouble relating to this part. Do people sit and read in their walk-in closets ? I have a few "good clothes" hanging up in the back closet, and 2 shelves with my "everyday clothes" , and I just put them on in the bedroom, turning off the bedroom light when put on my nightgown at bedtime. It does everything that I need.
Here's the closet.. Shoe rack on the left.. Baskets for sweaters under the window.. Shelves and hanging space on the left. A storage bench on the floor[
