http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-timewarp-farmhouse-left-unchanged-1940s.html China on the table and toys still on chairs, the fascinating house that has stood untouched since the 1940s. Grange Farm in Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Warwickshire is full of antique furniture and other possessions
Lots of antiques in the home that was untouched by time. It's very beautiful though I wouldn't have red chairs. The things in the home is so clean and seems very well kept. Guess they made things to last back then. What a beautiful fireplace. The fireplace looks like marble. I love marble. The American Pickers would love to pick it I believe! image from http://www.iplay.com/game/AmericanPickers/prod680188/sku660139
This reminds me of my husband's story when he was in London sometime in 1988. A friend of his bought a house that was almost 100 years old. And the sale included some furnishings which consists of antique wooden furnitures. The house was quite expensive, said the new owner although my husband has no idea since he was in London for just a few months. My husband couldn't forget the toilet where the water closet was overhead and the plug of the flush is tied to a long cord so the user can pull it. I wonder if that house remains that old today or is it renovated.
What an awesome old farmhouse ! I loved the interior , red chairs and all, @Krissttina Isobe . Actually, the red room was one of my favorites, and the old player piano and the pump organ are awesome, too. I noticed that most everything was marked for the auction, and I am sure that they will get some great prices for some of those items. Some of it might go cheap enough for the "American Pickers" types to want; but I am thinking that most of it will bring in some very good cash money. I was fine with everything until I got to the no refrigerator part. I don't want to not have a refrigerator. Then we looked at the outside and they mentioned the outhouse that was in the back, and I remembered that this house had no bathrooms; and probably had to haul in their water as well. Been there, done that. Not going to live that way again........
Interesting to look at and I would love to walk through and look at in person but the only thing Id want is maybe the mirror that Ruby mentioned and the Secretary. The place looks like a nightmare to clean! The guest bedroom beds looked very uncomfortable but maybe it was so guests didn't overstay their welcome. Who gets the money from the sale if they have no heirs?
In this country, if no heirs can be found, the profits go to the state. For one thing, the taxes go on, and eventually what is left goes to the government for it's 'trouble' in handling all the affairs. I not sure how it is handled in other places.
Yes most of us in the Uk had these types of toilets when we were growing up..that's if they had toilets indoors at all...no low flush toilets in those days. This is a typical toilet from my childhood in the 50's and 60's... then of course everything was modernised and just about everyone had low flush toilets installed in the 60's ...but now the retro look is back 40 years later for those who were born after the low flush toilets all became more fashionable and people are trying to make their bathrooms look original with much more modern plumbing and back to high cistern toilets again...
