The Jersey Devil is a legendary creature that has been sighted my numerous people and believed to be living in the Pine Barrens in Southern New Jersey. It's described as a bipedal creature with a horse or goat head, bat wings, hoofs, short arms with clawed hands. I recently watched a rerun of Expediton X in which a researcher claimed to have figured out what the creature was. According to the researcher back in the 17 or 1800s cargo ships from Africa to America had a hidden stowaway of the Hammer-Headed bat. The male of this bat species fits the description of some of the sightings. The female look more like your standard bat. Seems like a reasonable explanation until something better comes along.
We also have a legendary creature called the Suscon Screamer who is supposed to live somewhere on state gamelands on a mountain in Suscon. He or she supposedly is a lot like Sasquatch.
It's been a while, but I've see specials on The Jersey Devil and on Moth Man. We need members from Puerto Rico (or any Latin American country) so chupacabra can get some representation here. I wonder if @Silvia Benoit was raised with tales of this critter.
Back on topic (we didn't take long to meander): Sound of a single male hammer-headed bat Sound of multiple hammer-headed bats I wonder if the folks in New Jersey have heard this call.
Interesting the Expedition x show had a Unique plug in device for their cell phones That was able to recognize and identify bat calls. At First, the device identified most common bats like the brown that was in the area. Later There was a repetitive bat call the device couldn't identify. My memory say it was similar to what you posted.
THAT'S interesting. The H.H. Bat is not really widespread in Africa. Because of its fruit diet, it's a pest in lots of places. WIKI says "...a few instances of carnivory have been noted." It did not get more specific (meaning do they kill or are they scavengers?) That pic you posted is the male. Females look like regular bats.
John Brunner, And where do you think I am from? I am Argentinean.....and no, the CHUPACABRAS doesn't go to South America. LOL.
I thought they were only in Mexico. Then I looked it up on the internet. Apparently first sighted in Puerto Rico, and have been sighted in South America. Chile was specifically cited for sightings. But so was Maine That sucker gets around!!!
John Brunner, Gee, in my 30 years in Argentina I never saw one.....neither my friends from Puerto Rico in said country. I guess you have an ability we are missing....Tes, to imagine things. LOL
I have seen pix of what were claimed to be chupacabras but I think they were just pitiful mangey coyotes.
