I couldn't find this anywhere on the Internet, so I'll just theorize on how a dog's Bark is created.

First, the dog generates a powerful muscular contraction from its Diaphragm.

This sends a burst of air up through its Larynx, generating a Resonance as it passes through the various surfaces as it is projected.

The Resonance is Amplified as it exits through the dog's acoustic Throat and Mouth structure.

The loudness and frequency of the bark are determined by the size and power of the animal.

This is how I summarize the creation of a Bark.

    Thank you.

Now please explain the psychology of barking. For hours at a time, nonstop, every day.

Doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different outcome.... :)

Which leads me to believe dogs that bark all the time either just like to hear themselves bark, or are not very smart.

    @John Brunner that's funny.

@Nancy Hart. I think dogs are very smart in that they know how to annoy us by barking to get our attention. I remember one time a dog was barking all hours of the night that I yelled out my bedroom window "Shut Up!" Maybe the owner heard me because I never heard the barking anymore.

I will never understand how the people nearest that incessant noise are not bothered by it.
How can they shut it out?
And how can they be so ignorant of others?

    Nothing infuriates me more.

Dunno. One of our dogs and I have some pretty amazing conversations. He acts kinda stupid but is actually very comprehensive and has his own opinions regarding a myriad of subjects.
Much better conversationalist than some people I have met and know. :)

    Bobby: “How does sandpaper feel?”
    Dog: ”Ruff!”

Bobby: “What’s on top of a house?”
    Dog: “Roof!”

Bobby: “Who’s the greatest baseball player that ever lived?”
    Dog: “Ruth!”
