IYO .... will it ever regain it's loses ? How long will it "flirt" with the "bottom" ? Some of the big business loses are just sad . Many of us seniors may not have time enough to wait for a long time regrowth.
I think it still has a long way to fall to hit bottom. It is being artificially propped by the Fed and inflation until after the election in November. If China, Russia, and India succeed in taking down the dollar, you ain't seen nothing yet.
The good ol stacked stock market. We have been had since 1913 when Wilson sold us out, be it on naively or seditious, the effect was the same.
Congress agreed with it, so it wasn't just Wilson. Americans had fought about a centralized banking system for over a century when the Fed was created, as in-the-know Americans had seen what the Bank of England could do to the currency. The Federal Reserve supposedly was created and modeled after the Deutschebank and was designed to last about a century and make a lot of people rich in the process. It was passed in the Progressive Era at the beginning of the 20th century when direct election of senators was passed, as was women's suffrage and Prohibition, the last three being Constitutional amendments that required the states to agrees as well (not the Fed).
Well, I can't argue with you on this because I am not sure your wrong,. Prohibition just made a lot of Italians rich. Didn't hurt the Scotch Irish hillbillies either, probably record sales in corn liquor and moonshine. I just realized something; no wonder they called them 'scotch' Irish they liked their whiskies.
The "Scotch-Irish" were so-called because they immigrated from Scotland to the U.S. via Ireland. Prohibition also financed a huge expansion in organized crime on all fronts, not just the Mafia. On one of Tom Snyder's Tomorrow shows, he interviewed a Mafioso who personally thanked the Baptist Church in America for helping them expand in the 1920s.
My grandparents were both from Ireland granddaddy had darker hair and eyes may have been considered 'Black Irish' not meaning he was black just darker, which was a insulting term. Grandma was more Celtic and vedry fair blue eyed blonde. Many were red heads.
I invested in a dividend stock for many years and it is paying off now. I don't even watch the fluctuations as long as the dividends are paid.
I am similar but ... my dividends just roll over to buy more stock. at one time, IMO that was the "thing" to do. If one didn't/doesn't need the dividend for some expence / bling ? Buy more stock to enhance your holdings. Now ? I'm not so sure ????????????
We just take the dividends without rollover. It's nice to have cash reserves that are building every quarter. At this age, I like having money that isn't invested though bank interest rates are pitiful.
Now the Dow has fallen to below where it was when Biden took office in the height of the pandemic and will continue to fall. Some analysts have said that it is the consequence of the executive orders that Biden signed on his first day in office that have caused most of this, as it caused energy shortages across the board and helped prevent the recovery that should have come after Covid fears died down. Both the Euro and the Pound Sterling have dropped to the value of the dollar, probably their lowest value ever, due to the consequences of the restrictions and penalties placed on Russia after the invasion of Ukraine. Western leaders are trying to get people to believe that "it's Putin's fault", but if you believe that, you are very naïve. The sanctions placed on Russia by the West may be largely responsible, but that is not Putin's fault. It is the fault of those who put the sanctions in place and expected Russia to not retaliate for the sanctions. We are approaching the Stagflation of the 1970's when the last totally incompetent Democrat president was in charge, except this time we may be going into a depression, not just a recession, as the Fed tries to stop the onset of hyperinflation in the U.S. The Dollar appears relatively strong, but that is mostly due to the weakness of the Euro and other Western currencies. We'll see....
@Don Alaska - I am hoping and praying we have enough left for this out of state move, and to cremate us when were are gone .
