We went to the market this morning and as usual, we brought along our 2 dogs who stayed in the car with my husband while parked in the nearby gas station. Before leaving the car, I noticed several vendors with the carts full of vegetables and fruits. They are the illegal vendors who have no paid area in the market. During weekends, they appear to vend their wares in the street beside the market. When I came back to the car, I noticed those carts were already lined up in the street and business looked brisk for they have customers already. In the car, my husband said that a patrol car came and the cops looked like checking the place presumably for illegal vendors. But some cops were even talking to the illegal vendors. And when the cops left, the vendors pushed their carts in a scramble for a position in the street. Well, when the cat is away, the mouse can sell their wares.
I guess they are just trying to make money. In the United States we have Farmers Markets. Do they have anything like that? Of coarse there must be some kind of fee though one that is only in the summer is in a parking lot so there shouldn't be overhead really. Maybe some trash pickup after the event and it's only once a week.
