My brother has four of the tall, w/draws, mechanic tool boxes completely full of tools. Yes, I said four! I was shocked to hear that. At around 73, he still loves mechanic/grease work. He won't even look at a computer. Absolutely hates them and will tell anyone that. Since I'm a computer "techi" type and use one everyday for lots of things, we don't talk much. Very, very different lifestyles.
When I was using an RV battery (similar to a marine battery) to power my water pump for the trailer before I got lights and water there, I was able to use a solar panel that kept the battery pretty well charged up all of the time. I think if you got one of the little solar chargers that will connect to your battery for the gate, then you would not have to worry about it needing charged. This is similar to the one that we were telling you about for your car battery, except that one connected directly to the cigarette lighter connection (or whatever they call them now when they don't have the actual lighter part in them).
Hi @Yvonne Smith , it had a solar panel, but the last time it was vandalized, it was torn off. Why I have no idea. They could have taken the battery. That's why I was checking on batteries with Cody. Buying another battery might be easier and cheaper than battling the vandal in the long run, not to mention the aggravation of the act.
When I was a flight attendant back in the late 1970s, I would buy a Waterford lead crystal goblet every time my crew had a layover in Limerick, Ireland. As Shannon Airport was our European base I was there every other week or so for some years. So I have a very complete set of all sizes and types of lead crystal glassware. I used to use them when I was single and had guests. When I married my current husband (of 20 years) it didn't take me long to discover that he and his 3 teenage sons would use my sterling silver cutlery to pry open cans, and were basically not 'house-broken', so I hid my treasures away including the lovely crystal goblets. I have never unpacked them, except for one glass that I kept out to use when I am by myself. When I was young I obviously foresaw a very different lifestyle for my future self than the one I ended up with! I thought I would marry an executive or corporate attorney, not the IT guy. [LOL] I would not part with them anyway, they are still my treasures even if I never see them!
I have a whole workshop/storage shed that is full of things I will probably never use and there is some I hope I will never have to use. When I go out to buy a plumbing elbow to do a job normally I buy two extras thinking in the future I might need them but hoping I don’t need to. Because half the day our house is on battery power we use an inverter I have a spare inverter in the storage shed hoping I will never use it, My storage shed is over flowing but just what do you get rid of unless you can read the future I don’t throw out very much. I live in the countryside and a long ways from getting any parts and I also have parts that the hardware stores don’t.
My hubby thinks we should save everything...on the other hand I am a minimalist(spelling um). If I could ditch all I wanted we could live in a one bedroom apt. Things I am about to discard..2005 Surround system, stero, wii. Would like to ditch the vcr! Hubby is always going to fix whats broke...three years later I trash it! In his limited spare time he is fantastic carpenter and builds many things from wood. Apt is fiiled with items he has built...useful items. He even built hs own boat...used 5 times! Never has time to fish so it sits...in order to move forward you clear the highway first
When I met my wife, she was well on here way towards the "pack rat" thing in a storage garage she had been renting for some years. She just had no ambition to go thru the stuff from a house her and her former husband had. But, when she met me, and took me to see the storage, and finally getting the sliding door open, we started going thru things. When we moved to Colorado and bought a house, we did use the washer and dryer, frig and some furniture that we had shipped out. However, all of that is now gone. Since we were both working, and good income coming in, we bought all new, except washer/dry and frig. The apt complex supplies those. Thing is, when we got together, all I had was my motorcycle, clothes and a couple of ropes for rodeo. I had been renting a room in a condo and the owner, who lived in it also, supplied bed, dresser and tv. To this day my wife is very glad I'm not the "saver" she was. We do have some things we will get rid of before leaving Florida.
