I was at the grocery store the other day getting some Red Potatoes and just happen to notice this written on the bottom of the bag on the back........."Do not refrigerate. Store in dark, cool place." Now, I had never seen this Notice before, because I'd never really looked on the back of a potato bag. When I got home, just automatically opened the bag and poured the potatoes into the large Crisper tray on the bottom of the frig. So, decided to research this and found out that it is highly recommended NOT TO store raw potatoes in the frig. The temp is too cold and that will turn the starch into sugar and the potato will not be nearly as fresh. Onions and tomato's are the same way.........not to be stored in the frig. So, now our potatoes are in a grocery store paper bag in a bottom cupboard in our kitchen and any tomato's or onions will be kept in a small Wicker basket on the counter in the kitchen. My wife was just as surprised as I was, when I told her what I had learned.
