To-days excitement the military moved into Luperon blocking roads and bringing in heavy equipment to destroy perfectly good homes. Many years ago the dictator here gave land for people to farm taking it away from some large land owners. The land was only for farming and nothing else as time when on people started building homes and selling off parts to others who did the same. This is a reason the warning given to people not to buy land here as even if a person lived on the land for 30 years it might not be his. Now the government is returning land to the original owner it is causing quite a big deal as people don’t want to give up their home. I live a few miles from Luperon on the back roads and we are seeing a whole caravan of new cars passing by trying to find a way into the village. Probably there will be some videos showing up on youtube later but nothing now. Here is a link to a news media http://noticialibre.com/2019/02/23/...jo-en-sector-la-marina-luperon-fotos-y-video/
Land reform often goes wrong. Any time you forcibly take someone's possession away and give it to another without adequate reimbursement it is a bad thing. Many times the receivers have no idea how to take care of what they are given. It happened in a big way in Zimbabwe.
This is not a natural disaster but the owners of the land reclaiming their land DESALOJO EN LUPERÓN, PUERTO PLATA.
