It was 9 degrees outside this morning, when I drove to Burger King and got wife and I some breakfast. While in the drive-thru, I seen a young kid (12 or so) wearing a Springtime Hooded Coat and shorts. Wearing shorts in 9 degree weather??? And, this isn't the first time I've seen a young person here wearing shorts when the temperature was in the teens.

Wife and I asked each other, "why?" and "why didn't the parents tell the kids to wear jeans?" Sometimes it's extremely hard to understand todays parents!

That is nothing new. We had a 20 minute walk to high school during the days of Elvis style pompadour hair and heaven forbid if a hat would be worn to ruin it. I remember walking with a friend who had wet his hair down so much that droplets of water still clung to it. On the way to school they froze.

Well, perhaps, these kids that live in cold/snowy areas, should have stricter parents like I had. I wore shorts during the summertime, but like now, the shorts are put away for the wintertime. A lot of older kids, aka "adult kids", when they leave home, they are so grateful that they can do whatever they want, including dress in winter like it was summer.

It just seems like, with some parents/kids, whether it was yesteryears or today, neither care.

It was sort of funny, but the town high school kids, after school, would go across the street to 7-11 to smoke cigarettes and drink a Coke. Us farm kids had to take a bus home and immediately get to work feeding/watering livestock and/or jump on the tractor and do some more ploughing or discing before dark. We had responsibilities that the town kids didn't seem to have.
