Walked the entire riverwalk first time since May, been too hot. High today 84`, cool breeze. Much more rewarding than walking in square circles in the Mall! The BIG carp are back in force, after several years of "thinning down" attempts. This one was about 30 inches long. There are schools of 10 or more gathered here and there. Little needs to be said about Colorado River water quality, just look at it! From way up in any of the towers, looking out over it, the bottom is visible way out in the middle. Motorhomes, trailers, and campers have begun to trickle in to Don Laughlin's parking lot, that portion being reserved for such use only. Takes up about 1/2 of the outdoors lot, plus there is a multi-storied parking garage across the street. He allows them to stay up to 2 weeks, free. Two months from now, that lot will be nearly full! I'll try to remember to take a pic around Thanksgiving. Looking toward Casino Dr. from the riverwalk. "River Rick", the 20-story tall sign moved to Laughlin from downtown Las Vegas, where I first saw him in the 1960s. The beautiful blooming plants along the riverwalk are delightful all winter long.
It looks like you had a nice time roaming in the mall area. You are like my husband. When he's got nothing to do and he is in the car, he would go to the nearby mall just to look around, not really window shopping but observing although he never fails to buy something. Would you believe that there are so many malls near our place? There are 2 mini-mall by the village gate, a bigger one a kilometer away, and a real big mall 3 kilometers away. And there there are 2 malls being constructed within a 1 kilometer radius to our village. That's a lot of places to go.
@Corie Henson It seems Mall popularity has dropped off here a lot in recent years. Reasons are of course guesses. Phoenix, Arizona has so many Malls, one cannot count them all. But there, the very biggest, number about 6. Sears has always had a strong presence in big malls, usually building a free-standing building accessible through the mall. Many of those have been closed. One, the Colonial Mall, contained the largest Sears store west of the Mississippi River! That entire mall closed down around 1990. I was lucky to buy from Sears, the huge, early-made safe from that store, wish I had a picture. They were so concerned that having it moved would cost a large amount of money, that they sold it to me for $100! That safe was made by York Safe Co., in York, Pennsylvania, sometime before the Great Depression. It weighed 8000 lbs. I let it go with the house we built outside Phoenix. Frank
My husband is always armed with his camera, he always bring that wherever he goes. When roaming around here, he is like a tourist in a foreign country who is observing the environment. And when something catches his fancy, he would be taking a picture for sure. He takes photos even of taxicabs with fancy names, people wearing weird attire, any scene that is worthy of his camera. WIth malls, it looks like our country is having a boon where malls are being constructed left and right. Even in the rural areas, it is surprising to find big malls complete with the imported fastfood like McDonald's and KFC. I fear that in a decade, this country will be very crowded.
