Where do these people come from?? I believe two have fallen into the Grand Canyon in the past month and died, and now this. ARTICLE

A tourist Wednesday evening miraculously survived after falling off a 300-foot cliff into Hawaii's Kilauea volcano and landing on a narrow ledge about 70 feet below.

The man, whose identity has not been released, allegedly climbed past a metal railing at the Steaming Bluff overlook and got extremely close to the edge before losing his footing and tumbling into the volcano's caldera, according to a statement from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Rescue crews found the severely injured man around 9 p.m., airlifted him out of the caldera using ropes and a Department of Defense helicopter and rushed him to Hilo Medical Center to receive urgent treatment, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.

Following the incident, Chief Ranger John Broward released a statement warning tourists that ignoring important barriers can have fatal consequences.

I can only hope that when the nitwit gets out of the hospital, they present him with a bill for the rescue crews, helicopter, etc. And then charge him with criminal trespass for crossing the barrier like an imbecile. Sometimes I actually believe in natural selection. :D

I always say the exact same thing...every time anyone deliberately and knowingly puts themselves in danger, and ergo endangers others risking their lives to save the former.. should be presented with an enormous bill, from the cost of the rescue vehicle, to the cost of the medical bills, and even the rescuers wages...

We get folks from all over the world who come here to do dangerous things--ice climbing, mountain climbing, doing class 4-5 rapids--and I believe they should be required to pay for insurance to rescue them should it be needed. That is especially true of Denali (used to be Mount McKinley). Every year dozens of people have to rescued from the mountain at all altitudes. If they are wealthy enough to assault the peak, they should pay for their own rescues.
