Been a lot of comment on tv and social media. I think out of your mouth before engaging your brain syndrome or merely attention seeking
I have a hard time imagining that President Obama has been well admired overseas, since he's kind of an embarrassment here.
Actually @Ken Anderson to us he seems a really nice guy. After all weren't you Americans a bit enamoured by Margaret Thatcher. We just thought she was a balm pot.
One year my dad sent President Corazon Aquino and P M Margret Thatcher a Christmas card. He got a reply from Aquino.
...It`s a real pity that i don`t possess a scientific mind. Otherwise, i would build myself a time machine, and travel to some distant planet where sanity truly prevails....!!
This particular female Pakistani woman is a relatively unknown freelance journalist who writes sporadically for the Guardian newspaper... Apparently, someone alerted her to the fact that it is illegal to call for Presidents to be assassinated, prompting her to delete the account in a frantic attempt to avoid prosecution. I hope that no media outlets give her the time of day with any of her freelance diabolical rantings to have someone maimed or killed.. While While We're all for free speech , publicly on social media enticing the murder of someone is a serious criminal offence, and hiding under the umbrella of a well known Newspaper presenting herself to the world as a professional journalist is shocking. I truly hope if she doesn't get prosecuted ( and I hope she does) that, she at least never gets any media employment again..
I agree, @Holly Saunders. I had heard she's worked for the Telegraph as well, but I don't know if that is true. I don't know if she is a trained journalist, but if so, that type of behavior should have been covered in her classes. If not, the 'employer' needs to make it clear that this type of inflammatory commenting is dangerous and unacceptable. I find it strange that people seem to be unaware that calling for an assassination would be unacceptable, never mind illegal.
I doubt she's a qualified journalist in the true sense of the word Diane...I think and from what I've discovered thus far she's simply a freelance journalist who occasionally gets pieces accepted for publication...certainly unknown to the vast majority of the Uk Media readership ( at least until now..and what a horrendous way to go about getting your name known) ...and hopefully she';ll never to be heard of again...unless with a huge apology... and a completely different change in her mind set..
I haven't seen her picture, but if she's young and attractive, no doubt there's a spot for her somewhere. Even bad publicity is still publicity, and her name will now be known. There are some outlets that don't seem to care about quality as long as they get clicks and views, and some seem to focus on the sensational segment of the market, so her future could be secure, at least if she doesn't end up in prison.
IMO, I would blame the Internet to a good degree. Before it's dissemination, folks who had sudden, often violent or vicious thoughts regarding another person, event, or condition, could not immediately vent their feelings as they can now. Thus, no "cooling off" period existed. I am thinking strongly about voicing opinion on an article I read just yesterday. Still not sure it's a good idea, as it involves "raciness" related to the Internet. Have to thiiiink about it. (yeah, like I'm still thinking about posting my picture!). Frank
Unfortunately @Holly Saunders these types often resurface. Journalism especially in the UK have been vermin for years. If anyone remembers the hounding of Princess Diana. Yet again I blame it all on celebrity journalism. If I never saw another angle pouted pose I will be happy. They have picked on politicians for years. Some I do not agree with. They have a right to air their policies. Journalist tend to print lies and conjecture. Democracy is all about the opinion of every one regardless of view but the press have a field day. They do need gagging at times.
