I just read that he was serving as Minister to France and did not return to the states until 6 months after it was signed.
Crazy, isn't it? ANY form of travel, be it oceanic or on horseback. And most any illness could become life-threatening, as could the remedies. I swear we are as spoiled children these days, living these miraculous lives and appreciating nothing. Being students of history, I imagine our Founders felt the same way with their admonitions when they set up our form of government, knowing what had happened to cultures in the past when the lives we are afforded are disconnected from any specific thing we've done to earn them.
I feel sorry for the kids now. They have so much they don't have anything to wish for.We didn't leave them much of a nation or future either.Or is that us or just time? I don't know.
I think a couple of things: 1-Them being spoiled is partly their parent's responsibility, excepting that today's peer pressure (which has always existed) has such a materialistic edge to it. But I think there is an undercurrent of parental guilt in many families that gets "stuff" thrown at it. 2-There are times I feel as though I've not done enough to preserve our republic. On the other hand, I believe that cultures often implode because government always grows over time...it never contracts. It's inevitable. Power/money/corruption. We just happen to be here when America is going through this stage...but it's not a failure of the country or even its people. This is a global thing. Ireland voted against joining the EU...so it was decided that they needed to vote again. Sound familiar? Law, rulings & elections are only "settled" when certain people get what they want. It's a coup on a global scale. America is a huge target because of our wealth and freedoms. It ain't over yet.
All kids? We, the "richest" country in the world has a child poverty rate that we should be ashamed of: https://www.statista.com/chart/4191/global-child-poverty-rates-in-perspective/ Check all of those "socialist" countries who have less child poverty. While I'm on this rant, I might mention the new Texas abortion law. I wonder why we're more concerned about a fetus than a child?
Maybe you should ask the parents who spend the money and food stamps on drugs and have majority of these babies born fatherless. The do gooders giving away other peoaples money creat weak dependants who they creat more of the same .Teach your child to be independant and of strong charactor like the youth of America were before welfare. Also a fetus is the beginning of a human not a fouls egg. like the teen is beginning of adult.A phrase. Bring back the chain gangs and throw these absentee dads in them for non support.Stop awarding women for having kids they can't feed. Put them on work farms and problem will be solved in a matter of a few years. Now of course its much too late and this is just an asnswer to a problem neither of us really knows how to solve. Both you and I go to extremes in attempting to do so.
Ummmmm... We are very protective of the fetus of an obviously irresponsible parent, but once the kid is born, tough. You're on your own kid. Also, I might wonder how many of the Texan politicians who pushed this through have payed for abortions. Oh yeah, I forgot. That stupid kid should have chosen better parents.
To be sure, when over 3 Billion bucks is paid over the table to Planned Parenthood via our taxes including another half billion in grants and subsidies which are taxpayer paid, EVERYONE pays for abortions including Texas politicians. Look at it this way. Texas has every right under the Constitution to make their own laws. If you nor I live in Texas then it’s none of our business, it’s theirs. If the majority of Texans believe the new laws to be wrong, then they also have the right to vote the elected officials out of office and get someone who is more sympathetic to their own way of thinking. If folks want the Federal government to step in then you’re asking the government to take more control which, unless SCOTUS gets involved the Fed doesn’t have a whole lot of punch. It didn’t when marijuana laws were changed in a half dozen states and it didn’t when sanctuary cities and states were set up to receive illegal aliens even though both are illegal on the Fed level. To take it on another level, if we, the living, somehow believe we have the right to determine who lives and who dies then it’s a matter of arrogance but definitely not a Constitutionally sound belief. The Constitution declares life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for everyone, not just an age group nor color nor faith base. Note: The Texas law is one that includes a heart beat which means that there is no doubt that a living human being is present in the womb and consequently falls under the statement of “live, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. if one still believes that a heart beat isn’t enough proof that the fetus is human then when we think in the adverse, if our heart stops then perhaps we are no longer human and our parts can be sold to the highest bidder without any other action to preserve life. I digress and am slightly off topic. To me, it is the same as saying that since ours is one of the most powerful countries in the world, our country has the right to determine the rights and wrongs of a weaker or maybe even a country in it’s infancy. We don’t and again it’s a matter of arrogance on our part to think so.
The Left has set the precedent that you only have to obey the Federal laws you like and can ignore the others. Should Roe v. Wade be overturned, it would return to the states, and abortion would then be legal in New York, Alaska, and any other state that held it legal prior to the SCOTUS decision. The Roe v. Wade decision is considered a poor decision based on law, not politics or what it did. The decision was based on a non-existent privacy clause in the Constitution, which does not exist. If it did, anything you do within the confines of your personal dwelling would be legal. Alaska's constitution has just such a clause, and that is why marijuana for personal use with your home has been legal here since 1977 when the state supreme court declared it to be so.
No, Jefferson signed the Declaration of Independence and the Olive Branch petition. Monticello is the only House/Home on UNESCO'S prestigious World Heritage list. I have been to Monticello, very humbling experience.
