Sometime after you make airline reservations, car rental reservations or hotel reservations, do you go online and check each reservation to make sure everything is the way you still want it? We made our trip to Vegas reservations, as in: airline, car rental and hotel in May of this year and printed all of it out. I looked up all three reservations on Oct. 30. We did get an e-mail stating our airline would leave DIA an hour earlier. Then, yesterday, I done the same thing again.........just to make positively sure all three were good. Airline: good Car Rental: good Hotel: Well. I put in our confirmation number and it stated "no reservation found". I was starting to freak out some! So, I called the hotel reservation number. I gave them the confirmation number that I had and, apparently, the lady couldn't pull our reservation up either. Then a couple of minutes later, she pulled it up and said "everything is fine". She gave me a different confirmation number. I used the new number and our reservation came up, along with our original confirmation number. Then, by doing a little research, I found out that most of the hotels/casinos on The Strip now charge for self-parking after the first hour or, if you are a guest, daily parking is charged to your room. That is, unless, in which my wife now has, a Mlife Master Card credit card. BTW, the Mlife credit card covers every hotel/casino owned by MGM Corporation. With this credit card, we won't have to pay a thing for parking at any Mlife hotel/casino, but my SIL (wife's sister) will.
I always print out everything. People (even computers) sometimes make mistakes. Then I check online a few days before we leave just to be sure.
How can a hotel charge you for parking????? "Sir, would you like clean sheets @$25, or would you prefer to see the profile of the prior guests before deciding?" Just for grins, did you go back as to make a fresh reservation and see if that "extra fee" was disclosed?
Guess you haven't been to the Las Vegas Strip lately, have you? Only one hotel, that I know of, still doesn't charge for parking........Circus, Circus. South Point doesn't charge either. As far as the parking fee goes, it is listed when making a reservation, but, as already stated, if a person has a Mlife (MGM) Master Card credit card, that my wife has now, the person simply swips that card at the Exit, and parking is totally free. IOW, John, it's looking like The Strip is turning into "High-Rollers Only". Actually, the large/nice hotel we stayed at in Orlando, Florida, across from SeaWorld, charged us for parking also. We were going to SeaWorld then.
I don't know if I would call that a "high rollers" venue as much as a "low life" tactic. Taking basic costs out of the advertised Per Night rate and then charging for them separately is deceitful, especially something that's almost always required and incurs minimal incremental cost when used. If they don't open the garage to non-guests, that makes it even more egregious. And you're right, I've not been to Vegas...recently or ever. Except the airport. I don't have an aversion to the place, I've just never had a reason to go there.
Well, basically John, either pay what they require or not stay. But, believe me, there are some fairly dumpy hotels/motels, in not the most desirable areas of Vegas, that we've seen, but never stayed at. Just look at how much airlines charge today to fly. Special seating and luggage fees. Bottom Line: vacations and having fun costs! There are those, of any age, that don't like gambling, or even drinking, but that's not us. We don't gamble a lot and it's always on slot machines. In fact, nobody in my wife's family, or mine, gambles.
I imagine that the largest percentage of visitors to Vegas are flying in, so parking wouldn't be a deal. Of course I really have no idea but that doesn't keep me from commenting.
If you do not intend to be doing a lot of driving around Las Vegas as tourists, you might not even need to rent a vehicle. What Robin usually does when we travel, is she gets an Uber or Lyft driver to take us to the hotel where we are staying, or back to the airport when we leave. However, when I went with her to Hawaii, she had to drive back and forth to work each day, so she did have to rent a vehicle. We had my handicapped placard along with us, so we were able to find parking in the handicapped spaces, and I am not sure if she had to pay for parking while we were there or not.
@Cody Fousnaugh said "There are those, of any age, that don't like gambling, or even drinking, but that's not us" So does that mean you're imbibers?
No Uber or Lyft for us (just our choice). Anyway, not everything in Vegas is within walking distance from our hotel, like Circus-Circus, Sam's Town and South Point. Actually, my SIL (wife's sister), of whom I do and don't get along with, was sort of shocked that we are renting a car. She will have her van there. Then again, she felt the same way when we told her we were staying at a Strip hotel since she will be in a Timeshare. Guess, somehow, she wanted us to be under her control. Wife and I agreed that we didn't want that at all. I mean, just what is she going to do when we are hitting slot machines and having a beer? She doesn't gamble or drink! So, we are more than glad to rent a car and stay at the hotel. And, I serious doubt she is going to want to spend out the money in breakfast and snacks, like we will. Our first breakfast buffet will cost us $39.00 each and we have one buffet that will cost us some $55 each. Or, as those in Vegas say, "welcome to buffet's on weekends and during a major event".
