I bought my sis a Nook for Christmas, and I can't let her get started on it until I find out more about this dang spyware. It's far-reaching it sounds like. Feed back welcome. @Denise Happyfeet , I am not tech smart enough to understand all of that but I do believe that everything we post online is being watched. We tried an experiment one time where we would deliberately mention a product. Almost instantly, we would begin seeing ads for that product. We had a little fun with "The Watcher." We would mention certain unmentionables and it would show us ads for them.
I do get that too @Shirley Martin I've tested it as well. Searched for boots, there they are, in my facebook ads. We have slipped into the syfy movies we never thought could come true, LOL!! Not to mention, Big Brother is watching!
I spent 49.00 plus tax on a Nook Tablet 7" from Barnes and Noble, for my sister's Christmas present. Then I found out that it had spywares (adups) from China's Samsung Manufacturer. So I am returning the Nook after reading more about it, and do feel it is best. But now I have to try and find another reader for my sis, that is either the same price (new Kindle for 49 bucks, they call it just "Fire", not Kindle Fire) or at least within a few dollars. I'm not rich. Does anyone actually own one of these new, 49 dollar Kindles or Nooks? If not, but you have some first-hand knowledge of how good they are, the Fire I mean, as that's the one I'm thinking of buying for her. She was really happy to have the Nook, but we luckily, never got it set up for her, since I found out about the spyware deal.
Yeah, I have a $49 Amazon Fire tablet, although I bought it when it was on sale for $39. They go on sale every now and then. I love it. I use it not only for reading, but I get online with it, usually for the forum, sometimes after I go to bed, and I play a Mahjong game. Although it's not something I have done more than once, I watched a move on it once while I had the flu and it played just fine. One day when I'm feeling rich, I might buy one of the more expensive ones but this works very well. It's the same thing that they used to call an Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet, but I think they are wanting to differentiate between their e-readers and their tablets. I have a paper-white Kindle e-reader too, and I prefer that for reading, but the Fire is easy enough to read on too.
Oh thanks @ken, I will go ahead on ordering one then. The only negative I saw in reviews was something about the text in the books being fuzzy? Have any issues with that? My Nook has always been clear as a bell PS did you order it through Amazon then? I am just waiting for the "return" info from B&N/Ebay. Bought it through ebay, but B&N was the seller, weird hey??
No, I haven't seen that. On my paper-white Kindle, illustrations are not very easily seen, but my Fire tablet shows them as clearly as can be expected on a 7" screen. I ordered mine through Amazon. You might look to see if they have any refurbished ones, that might be cheaper, but I just bought mine when it was on sale.
I can do the 49.00 plus tax/shipping. I think I got free-shipping from EBAY so I'll check Amazon and Ebay. Great, on the clear views She likes to just read so won't worry about all the other options/apps for now. Although she is nuts about facebook Casino slots, LOL!
I have not bought one of the brand new Kindle Fires; but I have an older one that I bought refurbished on eBay for about $25, and it works great. I only use it for reading because I have the iPad with keyboard for everything else; but like Ken said, you can actually go online, read email, and even watch movies with it. It is smaller than the iPad and larger than the iPhone, and is the perfect size and weight for reading with. Amazon always has lots of free books at the Kindle Store, plus the Kindle Lending Library, and they also have a lot of games for people that enjoy playing games. I have never had any problem with print being fuzzy, and they have different shades of background you can choose from I believe. I think they are a good quality tablet, and I can't think of any reason they you would not want one for yourself or your sister.
I'm getting one ordered for her now @Yvonne Smith thank you for your review. Especially when I talked to @Ken Anderson that has the lower priced Kindle, I felt confident going with Kindle. Also, from what I've been reading, Nook or I should say Barnes and Noble, basically, can't compete so they've dropped off their support, and a couple of folks I talked to on a strictly "book" forum said that Nook is going to most likely fade away. So I know my next reader will be a Kindle, and if I'd researched better, I would never have ordered a Nook Tablet 7" for my sis Kind of disappointing for her gift to have to be sent back, but all will be ok Thanks again, and I will see you guys a little later when I get my "have to " stuff done denise
I tell you, sometimes it's not worth getting up in the a.m. I've had nothing but trouble today figuring out what to do about my sisters gift. If it was just for me, no big deal, I can handle whatever, fix it. Now I get a message from my majorgeeks site that says this. I am hoping @Ken Anderson sees this as he is the most technically inclined here, as far as I know anyway. I know this is an "opinion" but I've ordered the "Fire" for her, to arrive the 6. It said nothing about ads, or extra 15 dollars, Help: If your sister doesn't buy a lot of ebooks, music and such from Amazon or have an Amazon prime account, she might be disappointed in the Fire. It's primarily set up for the consumption of Amazon media. For $49, there will be ads but an extra $15 will get the ad-free version. The main problem is you'll get what you paid for. As for other $50 range tablets, odds are they will be Chinese made with a mediatek chip and possibly ADUPS update software also.
Ok, I did think to go send the "seller" a message, I usually purchase from Ebay as they are a little less expensive. But @Ken Anderson if you know anything about the Fire's being riddled with ads unless I pay an extra 15 dollars, will you let me know? The $49 Fire includes one ad at start-up but it's not a spyware ad and all you have to do to get rid of it is swipe it after it boots up.
Ok, I'm going to stop worrying. The info came from someone who either has a different ereader, or he just doesn't know what he's talking about. You own one so I'll go with what you obviously would know to be true Thanks much, I really appreciate it denise
