We have since moving to our present location experienced more problems with the U.S. Mail service than anywhere else, bar none. Within the past few days, fortunate that I log in to the checking account frequently, I found that last month's mortgage payment check had not been posted, 3 weeks after mailing.

Called the lender who confirmed they had not received it, they suggested waiting another week, grace period until the 16th, then if they still had not received it, call, and make payment over the phone. OK, well and good, but WHO has the check I mailed on Jan. 14? USPS, still? Or someone who should not have it? Beyond doubt, USPS is at fault here, knowing the past ill performance.

Complain to USPS? Been there, done that, at least a dozen times in 4 years now, that being perhaps only one-fourth of the number of times we have dropped off a neighbor's mail delivered to us, and vice-versa. Stop payment on the check? Costs ME $35, to pay for the ineptness of others. Late pay maybe flags the credit score, something I care little about. Pay by phone every month? Sure, then mail payment to the CC Co., and what is to make safe that mail delivery?

I have never in a complete lifetime knowingly allowed any debt payment to be late. Might explain my credit score, always 800+. I feel victimized by a system which exhibits shoddy behavior, and nothing seems to be available to rectify that. Anyway, I feel better now!

I'm glad your "venting" helped you feel better @Frank Sanoica and I'm sorry the mail is giving you so much trouble.

Every now and then we have a problem, but it hasn't become the norm yet. And I hope that it never will.

Can't you just pay over the phone with a debit card? I make my Verizon and AT&T bill online, maybe you can make you're mortgage payment online also?

I've had a bill not get to where it was supposed to in time once or twice and that was my Verizon Bill so I started paying it online, so much easier.

A debit/credit card is just like writing a check...it's taken out of your checking acct.

When I pay online I pay with a credit card, pay the credit card by mail or phone.. I do not put my bank account number online.

A lot of things could happen to mail. Plane crash, tornado, etc.

@Frank Sanoica , I feel your pain. I have a piece of mail on my kitchen table right now that belongs to a neighbor. I have told the people at the post office that that piece of sh!t mailman needs to be told to put mail in the right boxes. Didn't do any good. Do mailmen have tenure? After having to pay late fees on several bills because I didn't get them, I now pay all my bills on line. Then they wonder why the postal service is going busted.

We suspect our mail is brought to the boxes, which are located a mile from our house, by a contracted service, not USPS employees. The delivery lady drives her personal car, no U.S. mail vehicle in evidence. When we first moved here, the delivery guy was an old Japanese, couirteous as could be, and just as accurate, too. Never had a problem then. I wound up on this mortgage deal paying it by phone today, for which they charged a $7.50 service fee. I was fit to be tied!

WE have to pay extra for a blunder caused by others. Grrrrrrr!

I feel your frustration Frank. We do not have a "to your door" delivery system but instead a series of individual boxes in which the mail lady allows a helper to "help" resulting in mail going constantly astray. These people are not directly employed by Canada Post but instead are subbed out so no action is taken against them.

A good neighbor will return mail accidentally left in their box but if they don't know you that mail hits their trash can.

I'm sorry to hear of your problems with the mail. Our Mail Lady is great. She goes out of her way to be helpful/
