I watched a series on Max last week about Candy Montgomery, who killed her lover's wife with an axe (41 blows). She got off claiming self defense, then went on to become a family counselor in Georgia. Makes you wanna go, "hmmmmm."
Reminds me of a news story I read several years ago about a guy who chopped his mother-in-law 21 times with an ax in the garage. His defense was that he thought she was a large raccoon that had been raiding the garbage and once he realized it was her, he "just couldn't stop". I never read about the outcome of the trial but I'm pretty sure the jury wasn't going to buy it.
An elderly woman here tried to poison her son's girl friend but the girl friend survived. The elderly woman got some jail time but was eventually released, perhaps because of her age. I saw her out walking one day and just to look at her face, you could tell she was an evil woman.
Yeah, that was in the Dallas area in 1980 or so. I didn't remember it but it's a good series if you have HBO/MAX. There's also a series on Hulu called "Candy" and the old original movie is on Youtube for free. It's called "A Killing in a Small Town."
If the movie (with Barbara Hershey & Brian Dennehy) was an accurate depiction, it was self defense. The wife had the ax first & she tried to use it on the other woman. The other woman was able to take it away from her during the struggle & kill her with it.
Oh, I believe it was self-defense. The only part I have trouble with is the "41 blows" that obliterated the victim's head/face. Most sane people would have gone screaming out of there as soon as the axe appeared. That story about being triggered by someone saying "shhhhh" is total bullshit.
