Well, I just went to the pharmacy to fill my prescription for Wellbutrin that I didnt fill a few months ago because I thought the $88 copay was too much.

Now they tell me that my ins doesn't even cover it and the cost is......$1000!!!!

For a friggin antidepressant that's been around forever now. Can you imagine getting it at that price and a week later decide the side effects aren't worth it.

Nothing is going my way lately, but this takes the cake. I'll have to call my dr and see if he can write up something to the ins company.

How do they have the nerve to charge $1000 for Wellbutrin?

Is that a new prescription for you or has the price increased? One thing we're seeing a lot of lately are investors who buy out the patents on medications that people are required to have, and for which there are no generics, then raising the price many times. Not long ago, someone bought the patent on the Epi-Pen (used to treat anaphylactic reactions in people with serious allergies) and raised the price from under $2 to $600. To a lesser extent, the cost of Narcan went up many times over.

I took it years ago. And my last visit to the dr she prescribed it but I didn't fill it. So, after my meltdown recently I thought maybe I'd give it a try again.

Went to Walgreens today and they told me my ins doesn't cover it and it's $1,000! I was shocked...I couldn't believe it. There is no reason on earth for it to cost that much.

Yes, I heard about the epi pen fiasco.

Do these people live in the real world? Who can afford to pay these amounts for meds?

Besides meds? I don't do well with anything natural, lol. Nothing works for me if it's along those lines. Maybe my mind set, I don't know.

I have tried Wellbutrin many many years ago and it worked. I tried the generic version a year ago and stopped that after a few days because it gave me real bad nightmares.

Done a bit of research and the most favourable alternative is Rhodiola Rosea capsules
You could check if they are suitable for you. Have seen many good responses to this remedy :)

Putting on my conspiracy theory hat, I wonder if the idea is to get the media and people clamoring for more government controls, a task that our ever reaching government will all to happy to take on.

I don't know Ken but this is just very wrong.

And I was reading an article about the generic Wellbutrin and think it was withdrawn because it wasn't up to par. People were complaining left and right about how terrible they felt switching to generic and I think the FDA finally agreed.

Was just starting to research but my internet was slow as molasses so I had to do a reset, funny that I was just talking to @Diane Lane about them.

I have had a thing with meds too. I went to the doctor on Tuesday. She a nurse practitioner was supposed to have emailed it to the pharmacy, and it was never done! Thank God I checked on it. She gave me some kind of song and dance, and then called back...Anyway, I guess it will be called in. I mean with the long weekend, the hurricane and the fact that I am almost out of meds. I didn't need the stress. Anyway, I don't trust her. I am going to have to call the pharmacy again, to make sure they have the prescription.

I'll have to research it and maybe give it a try but my mindset already says "NO". It's cheap so it can't hurt.

@K E Gordon , I don't know what it is but lately everything is a hassle and nobody even cares. Some meds say you can't stop them suddenly but then for some reason you aren't able to get it because of some incompetence.

As you can see...I'm getting fed up with it all!

For $1000 I could fly to Hungary, have a great time and come back with a years worth of Wellbutrin. It's probably about 10 cents there.

If my old dr is around he'd prescribe a years worth for me. I'd give him a $50 tip.

I couldn't read the whole article, as it was confusing me. Most, if not all, drug companies have programs that will pay the cost of medications for people who can't afford them, and I know that their criteria is lower than that of Medicaid or other government programs. For short time, I was getting Crestor for free from the manufacturer but now that I have a Medicare Advantage program, my co-pay is affordable so that's no longer the case.

I know, I did that with one med but now that I'm on medicare it stopped. I think if you're on medicare even if it won't cover your drug you can't get it from them. That was the case with me.

I was dealing with Merck I think.

The ceiling is pretty high too. So you don't even have to be really poor to get the help. I think it was $45,000.

Can't remember if that was for one or a couples income.
