Didn’t you order the Super Gut book, @John Brunner ? Once you read that and start the 4 week gut-restore program, I bet that A1c will come right down to normal for you, and you will start feeling much better all over.
Dropping all sugars and grains is a drastic change (at least it seemed like it for me), but I am learning to use almond flour and flax meal to make “bread” type foods, and there are lots of good recipes in the book that you will enjoy making since you like to cook.

I got the book and have been skimming it, but the idea of being able to go grain-free is more than daunting. It eliminates a ton of breakfast (cereal) and lunch (sandwich) options.

It does, but there are substitutes, we just have to extend ourselves to learn new ways of preparing foods we like, at least for most meals. If you try it for a week’s commitment, you should be able to see if you are starting to feel the difference and if it is worth it for you. If it doesn’t help, you can stop and at least say you tried it.
I am not 100% faithful, but just making the effort has helped me, and even the short time showed a difference in those last lab results; so I am going ahead with this, at least for now.

When we go to the fitness center, Bobby is not having to drag me along, and stop and wait 2-3 times for me to huff and puff and catch my breath just to get to the swimming area. We have extended our fitness time to an hour and 15 minutes, and i am doing the extra time swimming as well as I did the shorter time before.
I still need the next day to recuperate, but most of the time, I am not as worn out as I was before i started the gut restore program.

Most docs consider the A1c < 6 to be okay, and you said yours run 5. something, right? When I was waging my battle to get A1c used as a screening tool, many doctors didn't want to consider it unless a patient had been diagnosed as diabetic by other parameters, and even a glucose tolerance test. I was ahead of my time I guess;)

My A1C has been at 5.7 for a while. This one was at 6.0

It's my post-retirement diet that's killing me. Cookies and candies that I never used to have in the house and now routine after every meal. At least his note said "diet & exercise," not "meds."

Oh...he did ask about vaccines. (I did not tell him the conversation his nurse and I had about vaxes before he entered the room.)

I've had low temp for several years after weight loss. Friends tell me I lost my insulation, like a seal or whale, haha.
I'm always cold at any temperature below 80. When I take my temperature, it's alway around 97.
