I have several fitness apps that I use. Apple actually has a health app that is very comprehensive, but it does not connect with my Fitbug, and I just never use it. I also have a Homedics app that connects with the blood pressure device; but it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't connect; so I seldom use that one either. Since I am on low-carb/ketogenic eating plan, I also have the Atkins app on my iPad. It is hard to find food on there because they waste a lot of space putting in things that are not part of the eating plan, such as a large piece of chocolate cake. Here I am , trying to find the carbs in a 6 oz hamburger patty, and all they want to tell me is how many are in a cheeseburger deluxe from Burger King ! ! Plus, it doesn't sync with my Fitbug, either. Actually, nothing syncs with the Fitbug, except for the Fitbug app. I like the Fitbug app for keeping track of my daily exercise, and I can also add food in this one, too, and that is the app that I have been using the most, even though it is more calorie specific than carb specific. After watching some of the talks from the Keto summit last week, I started looking for another good app that was better for tracking carbs than the ones that I have. I found one called Carb Manager. I really like it already. It still has all the restaurant versions of food listed; but it does make it very simple to find any food you want, and also to put down the size of portion that you ate, because the amounts can be tailored to almost any size of portion, instead of the usual way of just listing it in one size of portion. They also have a premium version, and that can track all sorts of nutritional information. It doesn't sync with the Fitbug either; but I am thinking of getting a Jawbone UP24, which is as cheap as $13 on Amazon, and that works with more of the nutrition apps than my Fitbug does, plus I can charge it and not need the battery changed every few months. The premium version of Carb Manager is about $20 a year, which is not bad on a monthly basis, and it has a lot of good charts , and can even be printed out to show your doctor if you want to do that. The regular version, which I have now, was $3, and it is worth that, for sure. I know that there are lots of fitness apps out there. Which ones does everyone else use and like, and what do they do that you really like ? https://www.carbmanager.com/index.html
I just use my fitbit at my daughter's and only for counting steps basically. Pointless here but believe it or not I get about 5,000 steps on days that I don't even go out, just walking in my house. Since I'm not really dieting I'm not watching or making note of foods I eat. I used to use the apple app for tracking steps but you need to have your iphone on you.
Ya know, ..........when I go to the VA clinic there are all kinds of vets around and most of the ones who are my age and below perform and act like .....get this..........OLD MEN! I can understand the ones with old combat injuries and conditions but the ones who do not have those problems I am amazed at. They're old. Stoop shouldered, bent over, all wrinkled up and are either skinny or have beer guts and man breasts. I decided a years ago that I wasn't going to go out that way so I decided to start re-activating my organs, muscles and yes, even the brain. Yup.....started it and still going strong. I even have the pro bodybuilders at my gym pushing me to get my amateur card as quickly as I can as a step toward my pro card so I can compete in a couple of years. Even 5th place takes a nice 10K check home to mama but I plan to take 1st in the seniors or rather....the masters competition. The thing is now, it's getting hard to track my workouts, supplimentation, and keep a good progress log so my wife is trying out some of the apps and hopefully, she's landed on an app that will meet with my criteria as well. Merely marking on the chalk board or in a log book just doesn't cut it any more so if there is something I can use to stay more organized and focused it would be a good thing and a major step toward getting my goal. Going to heaven is easy to do......just die. Getting healthy and staying that way so I can continually enjoy myself until death comes knocking takes a little bit of work, knowledge and organization. Where's that app babydoll? !!
That prize sounds like a good incentive...being fit is a bonus! Hmmm, what's babydoll going to buy herself? I would do a fantastic trip that both of you will remember for the rest of your lives.
It's not an app, but we sure get exercise playing our Wii Game. Played it on Friday night for almost 2 hrs.. We bowled a few games and then done some 3-Hole golfing. Went to bed pretty pooped, but the exercise we got was worth it.
Yes, my grandsons have some games and there are plenty geared specifically to give you a good workout, but be fun at the same time. I'd exercise more if it was fun...walking on a treadmill isn't.
