This isn't a trick question.. I just don't know and I am confused..

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BUSH AND A SHRUB ….. ????

I hear people calling something by both names and I was wondering if there is a difference..

Probably none, but I've always considered a bush to just be wild-growing and a shrub to be trimmed and pruned. (Though I use the terms interchangeably.)

I always think of a shrub as being more woody--almost tree-like--where a bush is fuller and more leafy.

As far as I know, there's no commonly accepted difference between shrubs and bushes. Distinctions may be based on horticulture, foliage, or location.

Just as an example...…….... We have up here lots of ...… cedar.. I always referred to them as a cedar bush but most call them cedar shrubs till they get big and then they become cedar trees.. OK for that..
I have a lot of …. Diablo ……. bushes or shrubs....
I have a long wall of …… Caragana …. bushes or shrubs...
    I don't trim or groom any of them..... Is there a difference ????? …... HOK … !!!!!

While some people make distinctions, I believe they are synonymous terms.

...and it's got a lot of words that have the same meaning as well, too.

I'm gonna start referring to the Minors as "Shrub League."

I'm gonna shake the shrubs for answers until I'm shrubbed.

The only difference I can see is the letter "R".

A shrub is a bush you put in front of your house otherwise it’s just a bush.

    Bobby.....
if I take a shrub that is in front of my house and transplant it to the back, is it still a shrub or is it a bush ??
How about on the side of the house ????? Shrub or bush considering it was originally in the front of the house...

LOL....okay, somehow I just knew someone was going pick up on that. I shoulda wrote that a shrub is a bush until someone takes it home and makes it into a natural ornament in their yard. Since I do not believe there is such a word as “bushery” they call it shrubbery.
Of course, If one is trying to keep up with the Jones’s, the bushes could be called Jonsery Shrubs.

To me, its kind of like picking up a piece of gold. It’s just a rare rock until someone ties it to a string and puts it around their neck and then it’s called Jewelry.
