If we believe pop culture as expressed in novels and movies, and on TV, the greatest delicacy in the world is caviar.

To impress my fiancee, I bought a container of the stuff. In three words: salty, slimy, and "fishy."

Gave the rest of it to her cat who liked it; so it wasn't a total loss.

I would take my pinto beans and cornbread over fish eggs anytime;)
Once I was taken to a very elite restaurant. Itty bitty portions and high prices. Food was nothing to bragg about either.

I'd say lobster. People come to Maine for Maine lobster. I tried it once and it was okay, but more bother than it was worth. Caviar would. be a contender too, I'm sure, but I've never even tasted that.

The best part of lobster is the butter it swims in. Otherwise, very bland.

About 1948 the u.s.government doctors (ama licensed)

said that milk is not only over-rated, it is causing disease. (since it started getting processed).

Thus, it has been responsible for more mental and physical disease than any possible or potential or so-called virus.

That's kind of "reverse" over-rated, eh ? i.e. what mankind exxalts, is harmful. (and very, very, VERY, profitable.

Good observation in a strange way. Real butter is relatively 'safe'/ may be not too unhealthy.

The diseases caused by lobster are censored, so the price of it can stay profitable. (as well as the industry profiting from the sicknesses it causes daily worldwide) .

I have to tell this story. my wife was graduating from high school and her dad decided to take everyone, including me, for a seafood treat. We were living in a Boston suburb at the time and he was raking us to Gloucester which at the time was about 1 and 1/2 hours awa Well the meal was seemed clams and lobster neither of which I'd ever had. My comment to my girlfriend, future wife for those in Rio Linda, was "what kind of a way is that to treat a guest"..........Long story short, I love steamers and lobster. We used to go to Lincolnville Beach at the end of the season and but the biggest lobsters they had.

You do realize that gun manufacturers get half of firearm deaths classified as "lead poisoning," don't you?

I spent my entire career in the DC area, and have eaten at some very nice restaurants on my employers' dimes.

Generally, I'd say "anything French." The portions are small, and the prices are as tough to digest as the waiters' attitudes.

Specifically, I'd say escargot (snails in garlic butter.) I tried them once, since someone else was paying. Those who say they taste like pencil erasers are overstating their flavor.

    @Boris Boddenov

One of the more hilarious scenes in recent memory was when Tom Hanks, playing in "Big", sampled caviar........and tried to scrape it off his tongue!

Can I get an "Amen" from the audience? A guy called me a racist for saying that French cuisine is overrated.
