He has been acquitted. The Dems say he is forever impeached. My son and I were talking earlier today and I said if a man is accused of robbery, is tried and acquitted, aka not guilty, he is cleared of all charges forever. My son said that this is different. President Trump is still impeached. I don't understand how.
That makes sense, but unfortunately, it's not how it works. Impeachment refers to the House part of it, which requires only a majority of the House and, in fact, the House didn't even take a full vote on it, which was one of the issues that Trump's lawyers introduced in the Senate. Nevertheless, if the majority of the House votes to impeach, he is impeached. Impeachment does not mean removal from office, however. In order to remove him from office, two-thirds of the Senate would have to vote to do so, and they didn't even get a majority. If the Republicans get a majority in the House in November, they can vote to expunge the articles of impeachment passed by the former House, but it's unclear what that would mean, if anything.
Same as Clinton, Shirley. He was impeached but found "not guilty" by the Senate so was not removed from office.
In a few years, this whole thing will only be a small footnote in history. Then, further on, it will be totally forgotten.
