The problem is that so much of what we know we know isn't so.

The one that bothers me the most is A: I don't know what I don't know.

    A little learning is a dangerous thing ;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring :
There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again. --- Alexander Pope

“There are known knowns — there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns — that is to say, we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don’t know we don’t know.”

Nancy, I like your post better than my original post. Your post is a more concise summary. From now on, this is how I will think of the four types of knowledge: A. Known knowns B. Known unknowns C. Unknown knowns D. Unknown Unknowns. I think the best strategy for continued learning is

    A. Challenge our assumptions.
    B. Keep learning
    C. Listen to our intuition.
    D. Be open-minded

The following has become one of my favorites ever since it was posted. I repeat it like a mantra during the day.

Many verses can called upon to piggy back that part of the Psalm but my favorite is, “What, then, can we say in response to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31)

“It is a fearful thing to love what death can touch”

    Can’t remember who said it.

"All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone."
    Blaise Pascal

“The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.” ― Isaac Asimov

“The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long.” ― Lao Tzu, Te Tao Ching

“We accept the love we think we deserve.” ― Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower

“My belief is that happiness is necessarily transient. The natural state of a reflective man is one of depression. The world is a botch.”
    H.L.Mencken
