Terry the French are as greedy as the rest, Spanish, Portugese and the Brits as barbarism is a bi product of greed and power. I have a left field suggestion. A combined expedition by a group of Jesuit missionaries to both convert the heathen and then search for El Dorado on behalf of the Catholic Church.

The Society of Jesus, more commonly known as the Jesuits, is a society within the Roman Catholic Church that was founded by Ignatius of Loyola and instituted by Pope Paul III in the 1600s. The Jesuit society demands four vows of its members: poverty, chastity, obedience to Christ and to the Pope. The purpose of the Jesuits is the propagation of the Catholic faith by any means possible, including by force as the Jesuits were militarily trained so were ideal as missionaries in far off lands.

    That sounds great Craig!
I've always wanted to be a Holy Knight beating the love of Christ into heathens.

Joking, but your idea is a cracker! We'd still have a small ship (a Cog) and an exploring party, guides, navigators, mules, supplies, ...weapons, medics, ...Compasses, sextants, or astrolabe I think....
I'm sure the educated Jesuits would be multi-skilled too. Nuns too?
    Maybe a secret incomplete map?

A little more reading about Jesuits:

The Society of Jesus (Latin: Societas Iesu; abbreviated SJ), also known as the Jesuits (/ˈdʒɛzjuɪts/; Latin: Iesuitæ),[3] is a religious order of the Catholic Church headquartered in Rome. It was founded by Ignatius of Loyola and six companions with the approval of Pope Paul III in 1540. The society is engaged in evangelization and apostolic ministry in 112 nations. Jesuits work in education, research, and cultural pursuits. Jesuits also give retreats, minister in hospitals and parishes, sponsor direct social ministries, and promote ecumenical dialogue.
The Jesuit movement was founded by Ignatius de Loyola, a Spanish soldier turned priest, in August 1534. The first Jesuits–Ignatius and six of his students–took vows of poverty and chastity and made plans to work for the conversion of Muslims.

I'll search for a Lost City of Gold but I won't be any part of beating people into being Christians.

No then will have to find the other half of the map. Reminds me of an earlier story when we were searching for a portal to another universe. We have done a few of them using this theme havent we Shirley.

    Fair enough Shirley. I agree.
My comment was really just a family joke given my siblings and myself were taught by Christian brothers and nuns some of whom were quite cruel and even violent.
    Not all of course.

I just googled famous Jesuits and got these names as suggestions:

    famous Jesuit warriors
    • Ignatius of Loyola.
    • Francis Xavier.
    • Peter Faber.
    • Pedro Arrupe.
    • John Berchmans.
    • Francisco Suárez.
    • Robert Bellarmine.
    • Peter Canisius.

    Some famous Jesuit Priests:

The following is a list of some of the most prodigious and important Jesuit missionaries of history, each of whom influenced more than just converts.

    • St. Francis Xavier. ...
    • José de Anchieta. St. ...
    • Alessandro Valignano. ...
    • Matteo Ricci. ...
    • St. ...
    • Pierre-Jean de Smet. ...
    • Pedro Arrupe. ...
    • Ignacio Ellacuría.

    Names Of Famous Nuns
    • Anna Vyrubova, is a famous Russian nun.
    • Christina The Astonishing, was a famous sister who was considered a Saint.
    • Elizabeth Ann Seton, was the nun that founded the first American congregation of sisters.
    • Jeanne Mance, this name belongs to famous sisters from France.
    • Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation.

    My choice of Chacter:

For me, I favour being a Lt Peter Faber, a Jesuit warrior.
Int, St, Soc, Wealth, as a rough guide.

    Thoughts:

Agreed to be civil to the natives as our mission is to find El Dorado and not to preach or convert. Diplomacy and Friendships will be very important for their knowledge of the lost city and as source of trade for our Captain Dubois anchored in a secluded bay. He has excellent sailors and marines, and 6 cannonades. We have 3 or 4 months to explore.

Craig, I suggest you be Cpt Francis Xavier, as a thought.

I looked up El Dorado. It sounds like a serious story. I'm not sure I'm ready for another serious story right now. Y'all go ahead and I'll join in if I can.

Come to think of it this story has similar themes to the last Terry. So until we have more storytellers to tell the big stories what is your idea for a simpler story Shirley.

I agree, please stay Shirley and we'll do a lighter style story. I'm fine with that.

How about a bus trip up to say Seattle when during the journey a blizzard hits us. Nice and easy I reckon. Who can drive a bus?
That could have a few stories and adventures in it.

Or what recently happened in Colorado. That might be a bit extreme though. Poor people there. Fires and blizzards. So unlucky. So tragic.

Or playing some main Detective Characters, like in the British tv series 'Foyle's War'? , based during WWII in Southern England, where my own Dad came from.
All very proper there with cups of tea and cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off naturally,
and a plethora of crimes to solve.
Spies to catch, Murders, Black marketing, Shattered soldiers returning, a Noble class in decline, Concentration camps for captured Germans.. Mainly pilots at first....and take turns making up crimes....?
Too detailed? Lots of possible brief scenarios tho. Who stole Mrs Nelson's leg of Lamb, including the Mint sauce and scalloped potatoes?

Candace emailed me recently with a lovely story of a recent and nice event in her life. She loves to write, like me. Her health is picking up too I think. I also think she might enjoy playing a police officer with a big dog having a trained nose...

It is important to find an equilibrium in our play, and so I will try to be flexible so everyone's happy. I'm happy to bend like a reed in the wind.

This is a great release for me after a cascade of recent bad events over the broiling hot festive season here. The Christmas from hell sadly!

As for too many too, kind regards, Terry

    fancy a bus trip?

You are a top bloke Terry. To be honest Shirley has been SoC's longest story teller and is any integral part of Continue the Story. Be good tho if we were able to add to our small ensemble so we can tell the bigger stories.

The bus trip sounds fine to me. Shirley?

    I'll write to Candace again.

I like the 'Bus trip' . A gentle adventure.
One of us could even be the driver.

Sounds good. Miss Dolly has invited us to go with her on her bus for her next tour. Might be fun.

We could let Candace sing with Dolly.
