Recently watched 1944's "Double Indemnity". Starring Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck, and Edward G. Robinson. Good drama IMHO and a movie I hadn't seen in years.
I'm in a Group on Facebook called Tin Can Sailors, meaning, in the Navy, "Destroyer" type ships. I was on three Destroyers while I was in the Navy. Someone in the Group highly recommended those in the group to see Tom Hanks movie, Greyhound. Due to the Pandemic, it never made it to movie theaters, but did come out on DVD. We bought it on Amazon and received it last week. Was able to watch last night and..............what a movie! Full of WWII Naval action between America, it's Allies and German U-Boats. The Greyhound, a Destroyer of which Tom Hanks was Captain of (his first assignment as a new Captain). It takes place during the Battle of the Atlantic with German U-Boats (submarines). The movie was incredible good and I, pretty much, knew everything that was going on. The Convoy the Greyhound was in-charge of was going thru U-Boat invested waters and had no plane protection. IOW, a plane, carrying bombs that would explode under the water, would help a Convoy of Freighters, Tankers and Destroyers, get thru U-Boat areas. Two movies it really reminded me of: The Hunt For Red October and U-571.
One More Shot with Scott Adkins and Michael Jai White. Disappointed with the ending. Story line: Attempt to blow up D.C. but squashed by Lt. Jake Harris (Adkins)
I just don't know how to describe this movie with Jason Statham in The Beekeeper!!! It was fantastic!!!!! An on-the-edge-of-the-seat movie!!!! Not for the kind hearted. Statham was at his best yet!!!
I've never watched a Batman movie, or a Spider Man movie. I didn't watch any of the John Wick movies and haven't a clue as to what they are about. I watched the first Star Wars, the first Toy Story, and the first Godfather movies, and, while I didn't hate these, I didn't watch any of the sequels. Okay, I kind of hated Toy Story; just not my kind of thing. As for the many horror stories with multiple sequels (Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream, Night of the Living Dead, the Chuckie movies, Halloween, Friday the 13th, etc.), I allowed a few of them to play in the background while I was working on other things, but I didn't follow any of them. I liked Gremlins but I didn't watch the sequel.
Yesterday was Eva Marie Saint's 100th birthday. There was a marathon on TCM. I watched "On the Waterfront" and "A Hatful of Rain." The last one just finished at 3:45am. I saw them before but it was decades ago and forgot the details. Still good movies.
Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977) . - Diane Keaton, Richard Gere, Tuesday Weld On Turner Classics last night. I'd never seen it before. Assumed it was watch-worthy because people talked about it so much when it came out. I assumed wrong. Maybe I missed something. There was no story. Just a series of episodes, flashbacks, daydreams, each apparently meant to try and shock more than the last one, pasted together in random order. It dragged on and on like that for 2:16. I think the movie simply didn't stand the test of time. Except for the final scene, no one would be shocked anymore. I wouldn't want to waste time watching it again.
I just remember a scene when her bare butt filled the screen. Not the worst movie I have ever seen, but not one I would see again either.
Watch the movie Return To Me (2000) staring David Duchovny, Minnie Driver Carroll O'Connor, Robert Loggia Bonnie Hunt, Jim Belushi. A romantic comedy directed by Bonnie Hunt, who also helped script the story. I've seen this movie about three times and have enjoyed it every time. I thought it was well directed and edited, and to me it seems the actors we're having fun in some of the scenes. There's both sadness and happiness in this story, so I got teary-eyed three or four times some sad tears, some happy.
I just checked and Greyhound is available in a nearby library to borrow. Will get it when done with those I currently have out. U-571 I have seen .
Half done watching The Marksman with Liam Neeson. His character gets involved with a mother and her son who are fleeing Mexico by crossing the border illegally, as a drug cartel marks them for death. A very timely movie considering our open border situation courtesy of The Big Guy.
Watched our DVD movie, Greyhound again the other night. What a superb performance by Tom Hanks. To bad it didn't make it to the theaters. Covid/Pandemic stopped it. However, like Top Gun, Top Gun Maverick, To Hell And Back, We Were Soldiers and other military movies, they aren't for everyone.
