It seemed to be a pretty laid-back court atmosphere, with very few objections, and most of them overruled. People wandered around quit a lot. The judge pretty much allowed people to do whatever they pleased, including allowing witnesses to remain in the courtroom. I thought the prosecution's pathologist was a horrible expert witness. Rather than testifying, she argued, and she didn't even stop talking when there were objections to the questions. She gave the impression that she was not so much an expert witness but a part of the prosecutor's team. Murdaugh wasn't such a great witness in his defense, either. It's hard to believe anything he says.
Pretty "small town atmosphere" in court; everyone knows everyone apparently. Agree about the pathologist; also the "SLED" agents. Not very impressive testimony at all. Conversely, the civil case attorney (Tinsley) was extremely impressive IMO.
I have not watched as much of it as some of you have but my impression is that he's guilty but may well get off because the prosecution did a horrible job.
Sadly, in many high-profile cases the prosecution is majorly out gunned by defendants who can afford high powered lawyers.
Watching part of the closing prosecution, I think it is becoming apparent why they tried the case as they did. So far Waters is doing a great job of establishing a motive in his closing. I am watching his closing, now putting Alex as the only one at the scene besides the two murdered. The testimony yesterday where the two guys demonstrated the impossibility of the son's head top as the projectile entry point, was brilliant. As I said before, this will come down to the defense closing and how the prosecutor rebuts it.
I don't know if that was a good closing by the prosecution or not; my mind is already made up. Not sure if he could have swayed anyone on the fence. I still think it will probably be a hung jury. Hopefully there aren't 12 morons who will vote "not guilty."
I haven't watched any of the trial but the so called news media has already tried and found him guilty. That sort of makes me lean toward not guilty..... Since they found President Trump guilty of so many things that he wasn't guilty of. They said he killed them to keep his crooked dealings out of the news. That doesn't make a lick of sense to me. That's a sure fire way to make headline news.
You must watch the trial. It removed any thought I had that he was innocent. If anyone thinks he didn't do it, then you have to believe it was aliens that came out of nowhere and used Murdaugh's guns. If you get Fox Nation, watch the Nancy Grace shows on it.
I just finished watching the Prosecution's Closing Argument and every time I see him I can't help but think he looks like a combination of Tim Conway and Richard Dreyfus I also couldn't help but notice Alex stopped his poor sweet little country boy act and I saw a lot of arrogance in his demenor. I'm surprised they didn't say more about the dogs not barking. I'm curious why the lawyers had to meet with the Judge at the end. I'm dreading the Defense Closing tomorrow.
Thank you Beth! And that's a good question. It wouldn't surprise me. I'm surprised they didn't have a different venue given the 100 year Murdaugh history there.
I'm also thinking that a lot of the good old boy, down-home, informal atmosphere of the trial, including many of the decisions made, wouldn't hold up well on appeal.
This tells the tale for me. The first "snap chat" video at 7:39 p.m. and Murdaugh has on the blue shirt and long khaki pants. Then when the police arrive to the murder scene around 10, he's wearing a white t-shirt and shorts. The clothes and shoes in the first video have mysteriously gone missing. I hope the jury is paying attention.
