Hey! At least the waitress brought me a "free" refill.

I always drink water at home, and I have an unsweet tea when I'm out (I might drink one soda a year.) I never look at the menu price for an iced tea...I just order it. At least the food was good.

Maybe I need to just start getting water and not worry about looking cheap. Man, I used to eat out all the time, but there days it's a once-a-week treat...or less.

My mom always told me to order water to drink when we went out to eat. She said we could buy a whole quart of milk (it came in quarts back then) for the price of a glass of milk at the restaurant.
We had a neighborhood grocery store when i was younger, so I could have anything I wanted to drink when i was home; so having milk or pop was no big special thing to me anyway.
It still makes sense to me to order water with my meal, and use the money to buy more of whatever i would have bought, to drink at home. You can make a LOT of ice tea for $4, lemon and all.

Free? Let's take that $3.75 and divide it by 2 and let's not forget the tax. Now if you got unlimited refills for free that's something to talk about in my book.

The $3.75 may include unlimited refills, so I always consider that when ordering.

My rant is the time I wasted in starting threads, one in specific, that died a quick death, just to see posts that should be going there posted in other threads and actually taking them off topic. I can't decide if I am purposely being ignored, post inferior content, too easily aggravated, or if a few here need to go wash their eyes out with soap.

If it has to do with politics, religion, or anything that I can't say something sarcastic or funny to I'll pass it.

We merge duplicate threads when we notice them, or when they are pointed out to us, and, as you know, we try to keep threads on topic, but it's a lot harder to police individual posts.

I know Ken and I appreciate it. What I am referring to, without being personal is those with agendas that find a way to get something about their agenda or obsessions into threads where they don't belong and ignoring threads that they would be more relevant, but don't offer the active pulpit and exposure that other threads offer. Yvonne has always been great to move post, so that is not the issue.

This is a personal pet peeve and not one you can resolve @Ken Anderson. It was just a rant I had to get out.

Debit cards are protected under a different set of laws. It is like cash because as soon as they swipe the card the money is transferred to the seller's account. It is illegal to force a person using a debit card to buy a limited cost item and charge a set fee, say for instance a 5 dollar minimum purchase using the card. If they accept the card then they are bound to the laws that the card prescribes and could be punished if people in charge would do what they are supposed to be doing. Credit card laws and Debit card laws were signed at the same exact date and time simply because they are totally different and are not the same. Merchants still try to abuse the system and try and force people to pay extra on small cost items using an illegal set fee. The same might be applicable to a utility company forcing an extra cost that is illegal. Few people carry cash any longer and my account is 15 years old and not one check has ever been written by me. :D

I often ask for water and use the money to pay a good tip so the waitress doesn't care.

Rant: This last Saturday, our Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light came on. Drove less than a block down the street to an auto parts store and bought two qts. of 5W 30 Synthetic Blend/High Milage Oil. Put one quart in engine and light went off. Last night, Warning Light came on again. Pulled into a Walmart, checked oil and 1/2 quart low. Didn't know that 1/2 quart low would trigger the Warning Light. Had a full quart of oil in backseat and put 1/2 of that in. Warning Light shut off.

Called our mechanic's shop this AM, but can't get vehicle in until this coming Monday. So, will make sure there is a qt. of oil in backseat, in case Warning Light comes on again and take it easy driving the vehicle this weekend. IOW, absolutely no freeway driving.

Funny thing is, one website on Internet states that a vehicle can still be driven 2 weeks/500 miles, while another website states "have vehicle towed to shop immediately". IOW, the Internet is so, so inconsistent with what to do about certain things! It's no wonder doctors, auto/boat mechanics and other professionals don't like advice given online.

It might be the oil pressure that is triggering the light, not the oil level @Cody Fousnaugh. I lost one old car when the light went on while I was in the middle of nowhere in the mountains of North Carolina and had to drive to the nearest stop. That totaled the engine and I replaced the car. I now try to buy cars and trucks with meters or dials so I can see the pressure and temperature and I can get a heads-up before things go bad. Sometimes when th light goes on, the damage is already done.

I bought a Bluetooth OBD2 reader for my Mazda and downloaded the software onto a tablet so as to set up an extended gauge display. My primary goal was to get an oil pressure gauge rather than the idiot light. I then discovered that there is no oil pressure sending unit in the thing...the computer only monitors Too High/Too Low, but not specific PSI. I'm shocked, considering that the car has stuff like feedback sensors so it can constantly adjust the timing on the fly. I can monitor the transmission fluid temp if I wish...

Interesting, @John Brunner. I think you can retrofit sensors on some cars but that is far beyond my knowledge.
