My life is mostly routine but sometimes my curiosity gets the best of me. Than I take the road less traveled just to see where it goes. My philosophy is that I'm not lost if I have plenty of gas in the tank. All roads lead to somewhere.
I'm a 'sponty', but sometimes a 'routey', it depends on whether the old Arthur Itis is behaving itself.
Janine, I wouldn't go so far as to say that I'm friends with Arthur Itis, it's just that I have to live with the annoying sod.
There are some things I would like to be routine but can’t and other things that are routine but are inevitable. That said, beyond everyday living kind of stuff, we just take each day as it comes.
I have to be routine with regards to the animals or they get grumpy. I have a friend who got mad at me because I had to leave to do chores. It isn't that my animals are more important than she, but we have no electricity in the barn so I prefer to be done before twilight. But almost everything else falls where it may. It gets done if I have enough aspirin. I am ready to go if friends want a bite or need some help. Lately, I just dust around hubby.
I need my routine days as a staple back up in case nothing spontaneous pops up. But two routine days in a row is soooo boring. I look for a pinch of trouble, er, scratch that, adventure to find a bit of different so I can smile in the evening when I finish the day.
I guess I am more routine now than I have been for most of my life; but a lot of that is because there are no other options. I used to go places almost every day, shopped at several stores, depending on their sale days, went to the thrift stores on their sale days, yard sales on weekends, and whatever else i wanted to do. I really, really MISS that in my life. When I was younger, I traveled a lot, and loved taking back roads and exploring, and my kids enjoyed that, too. We went fishing, swimming in the lake or river, and often decided to just make a campfire in the back yard (we lived in the country where burning was legal), and we would roast hot dogs and marshmallows for dinner, and sing around the campfire until bedtime. Now, pretty much everything is routine, and decided by how we feel and what the weather is. Staying home is all the time , every day, except for going to the fitness center. I do the same things every day because there is nothing else to do. So, yeah, I belong in the Spontaneous category, at least for most things; but routine by necessity.
I am mixed 50/50 and always have been. I have my routines but one never knows (including myself) what I might do spontaneous during intermissions.
